A good JEE score assures admission in a reputed engineering college: Darshit Kotecha
Shiksha has given me a platform to share the experience and the journey of my education. Reading further, you will get to know a lot about my journey.
I completed class 12th from GSEB (Gujarat board) in 2015. For higher education, I opted Computer Science Engineering. I was sure about my stream, but was confused about the college. I considered many colleges and finally took admission in Parul University, Vadodara -Gujarat.
Coming on to why I chose Computer Science Engineering; my first choice has always been computers and I am interested in this particular field. Therefore, I chose CSE and I can see my future shining bright in this stream.
Now, why did I select Parul University? That’s because it’s a very good college and has a high placement rate. At Parul University, many programs and activities related to sports, music, dance, etc. are organised. Plus, every year, technical and non-technical events like Dhoom and Projection are held. All students participate in the programs.
Exam tips and admission journey
My educational journey started on 15th July, 2015. First of all, I filled the application form of Parul University. Admission at Paru; University is an online procedure. I filled the online form, and visited the college and met the administration department. I also visited the college campus and observed the way the students spent their time. I also checked whether I would be comfortable in this place or not. After a lot of thinking, I decided to study in Parul and took the admission.
After taking science stream in school, I chose engineering for my college. I gave GSEB class 12th examination and JEE Main. I scored well in those examinations. Plus, I had good computer knowledge. Then, I took admission in the university.
Admission can be secured in two ways - first, you can fill the form in ACPC and get admission. The second way is to fill the form on the college website. Through the first way i.e. ACPC, you get a rank and you can take admission on the basis of those. Through the second way, you can upload your result and directly contact the college to take admission. I think both the ways are good. So, you can choose any one of them.
According to me, if you want to take admission in a good college, you need to score good marks in JEE Main examination by doing the best possible preparation for it. If you have scored good marks, then you can get admission in any college easily. Your first choice for the college should be a government college, especially in case of engineering because it has many benefits. There are many advantages in a government college, less fee being the main benefit. You can enjoy your college life. Then, you can choose a private college according to your choice and marks.
My Leanings & Insights
My college life has been average but I learnt many good things from the college. Mine is a four-year course. In the first year, I lived in the hostel and it was a superb experience. There is a special hostel for NRI students at Parul University.
I have participated in many programs and events. I’ve also participated in EDC (Entrepreneur Development Cell). It’s for the students who are interested in entrepreneurship and want to start their own company. I enjoyed and learned from this cell. So, my college life has been awesome. Currently, I’m in the third year and my overall experience has been good.
I am learning for my placement. Our college provides special training facilities for the students. It has a special training and placement cell that gives the students training for placement. It also provides face-training for students. In the training, they teach us aptitude and English, and give tips on how to crack interviews.
I chose the right career for myself because nowadays, computer and related things are needed by everyone. Plus, nowadays, in every pocket, a smart phone is there. Applications make our lives easier. Therefore, I chose computer science engineering to make my career bright. It is the most useful stream for future.
Now, I’ll talk about the mistakes I made during my education and my learnings from my college. First of all, I didn’t take my education as seriously as I should have. I’d suggest you guys to take it seriously if you want a bright future. The second thing I want to suggest you is- take out some extra time from your routine, at least 2-3 hours, to get extra knowledge of the subject or stream which you have selected. Also, gather some practical knowledge, especially when you are in the computer stream because in that stream, everyday, new updates and new innovations are made.
I want to have a startup. My college has EDC (Entrepreneur Development Cell) to help the students who want to start their company. They support the students’ ideas and give them proper teaching and guidance. They also arrange seminars and invite successful entrepreneurs so that they could motivate us. So, there’s a huge support from our college to our education.
I suggest you guys to select the stream in which you are interested. That way, half of your work will become easy and you will always be motivated because of that. You will never get bored with your studies. Another thing I would suggest you is to see the future scope before you select any stream or course. Also, take your education seriously. Collect more information about your stream and college before taking admission.

Placement for fashion/design at Parul University is decent but not very strong compared to top design colleges.
