Peter Guber once said, “Stories aren’t the icing on the cake; they are the cake”. So here I am, typing out the recipe of my college life. In my case, there aren’t many ingredients, just a long process. I tried but the basic plot of my life at university is really generic. It’s been a roller coaster ride up till now, but the only thing is I enjoy roller coasters too much.

So, the night before college started, I was really tensed for a person who loves new experiences. Excitement and nervousness had kept me up almost the whole night. With each passing moment I could feel this feeling grow, and without me realising, the sun had risen. It was time. I knew I was overthinking. “College life is that part of your life that you are going to relive in your memories till you breathe.” I kept re-reading this quote on my phone, on the way to the university. The moment arrived when I reached the campus and looked up to the university, I knew I was in for a life changing experience. All my nervousness subsided and excitement started to kick in. I couldn’t wait to start with the rest of my life there.

That was day one and now here I am, stepping into the second year of my college life at NIIT University (NU). NU made the transition from a pampered kid to a young adult rather easy. Classes, hostel, activity clubs, sports, hostel, friends, hostel, that’s exactly how my days of first year went. Because of the curriculum that is followed at NU, I could afford to join so many clubs and keep my studies unaffected too. I travelled because of the clubs I was in and discovered a lot of new things about myself that I didn’t even know I possessed. This is something I feel I could only experience here at my university. During the first three weeks of my college, we were made to test our abilities and limits. We got to learn so much because of the seminars that were organised for us. It has been an enriching experience, delivering an intensive and well thought orientation. So, I say the university you choose has a huge role in shaping your college life. And mine turned out to be the one I really love.

Now I come to think of it, for a person who hates cliché, the first year of my college life was pretty much the definition of it. Yes, you meet lifelong friends, yes you have more exposure, yes to all the pressure you get to face as a college student. You get the experience of a lifetime, which other things fail to provide. For example, you wouldn’t be able to learn the importance of basic cooking if you haven’t lived in a hostel. You wouldn’t learn the importance of a minute if you haven’t gotten up late for the class and ran for it. There is a newfound love for homemade food. However, they learn, we learn. After a few mistakes, some larger than the other, nonetheless mistakes, we learn to survive and manage to do pretty well for ourselves.

I’ve come a long way as a person. One year is enough to change an individual, his/her perspective towards life. I am proud of how far I’ve come. I guess somewhere between being a nervous wreck to a much confident girl, I made a life changing story.
