NIT Jalandhar student hangs himself to death in hostel room
Pankaj Keshri was doing BTech (textile engineering) from NIT Jalandhar. He left a suicide note in which he mentioned that he was taking the extreme step due to personal compulsions and no one should be blamed for the same.
A 22-year-old BTech student from Varanasi allegedly committed suicide at his hostel room at Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jalandhar. Pankaj Keshri was a final-year student of BTech (textile engineering) and allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his hostel room due to “stress”.
The deceased also left a suicide note which read that he failed to succeed, thus, he was taking the decision of ending his life. He mentioned in the suicide note that he was taking the extreme step due to personal compulsions and there’s no one else to be blamed for it.

Students Activity Centre: It is the nerve cell of all the student activities on campus. The Centre comprises a club building. gymnasium hall, open-air theatre, and hobbies workshop, which cater to various extra-curricular activities of the students.
Technical Club: It functions under "clubs and hobbies activities* of the institute. The objective of the technical club is to bring together faculty and students on a common platform to exchange ideas and share knowledge on emerging technologies.
Book Shop: There is a bookshop situated in the shopping complex of the institute, where a Xerox facility is also available. Additionally, a separate Xerox facility is available in the Library.
Assistant sub-inspector Kulbir Singh of the Maqsudan police station said the body has been handed over to Pankaj’s parents after the postmortem examination. Meanwhile, parents of the deceased said, “The handwriting in the suicide note does not match with that of their son. A case under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been registered,” he added.
Several incidents of suicides by engineering students have been reported in the past months. The recent case is of IIT Kharagpur where the semi-decomposed body a third-year BTech student from Assam, Faizan Ahmed, was found in his hostel room on October 14. His father had moved the Calcutta High Court demanding a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after which the Calcutta High Court directed the police to submit a report on the investigation into the death of Faizan Ahmed.
