Internship provides much-required exposure to trending technologies and live project handling experience for Computer Science graduates. Ayush Kumar emphasizes the importance of learning a popular programming language such as Java, Python, etc. for securing internship opportunities with top organizations.

Internship plays a fundamental role in the life of every student. It offers you much needed technical knowledge and industrial exposure to complement your classroom learning. During internship, you are eligible to learn and gain hands-on experience in a particular field by handling live projects. Another important aspect is that you are being paid for the technical skills that you possess or the skills you are learning while working on the new projects.

In my opinion, internship is the best pre-job session that every student should undergo before joining any organization. In Computer Science, which is in fact my branch, a student has to learn languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc. in their college life to get selected for jobs or internships offered by any company. One has to master any one of the languages to secure a spot in one of the companies with a great package.

Computer science itself is an operating branch that requires a hands-on understanding of coding and building your own projects by writing code. This engineering branch has plenty of scope for expansion since every other branch such as mechanical, electrical, etc. requires assistance from coders for technical projects. This indicates a massive and continuous demand for computer science graduates in both the domestic and international job market. Therefore, to practice and become proficient in a respective skill, to match the job requirements, one should accomplish one or more internships.

In general, for joining an internship, one should clear the written mock test apart from the all-important VIVA round. Based on your score and skill level, your package by the company is decided. To improve scores in a mock test and perform better in the viva, one should possess the basic knowledge of all the popular programming languages besides developing proficiency in one of them such as LUNIX, .Net, JAVA, etc. If you have done this before sitting in an internship examination then be assured, you will secure a handsome package from any of the leading companies coming for recruitment or hiring interns.

Students can also apply to companies after coming out of college or apply for placement in organizations that don’t come to the college campus for recruitment, also known as off campus placement. Many students do not sit for placements and apply for jobs after their preferred companies start recruiting for vacant positions in their organization. However, getting a job off-campus is tougher as compared to securing a job during campus placement drives since the competition is quite high. Students who want to work for their dream organizations or looking out for opportunities in their core domain companies typically go for off-campus placements.

Internship experience adds a massive boost to your resume and gives you an edge over other candidates during placement drives, irrespective of whether they are conducted on-campus or off-campus. Interviewers are always on the lookout for candidates who possess hands-on experience of handling projects and working under tight deadlines. Most of the questions and discussions during the interview rounds also revolve your internship experience if you have mentioned it in the resume. Industry-relevant and domain relevant certifications coupled with your internship experience adds much-needed weight to the resume, particularly if you are fresh out of college.
