IIMC Entrance Exam 2019 Student Reaction

IIMC Entrance Exam 2019 was conducted on May 26 for admission to PG Diploma programmes offered at Indian Institute of Mass Communication. In the first shift, candidates appeared for Journalism (English and Hindi) from 9 am to 11 am. While in the second shift, candidates appeared for Radio & TV Journalism Paper. The PR and Advertising paper was held from 3 pm to 5 pm. As per the feedback provided by the students, the exam paper for Journalism (English and Hindi) was easier than Radio & TV Journalism and PR & Advertising papers. The students further said that there were lot of changes in the exam pattern.

IIM Entrance exam for admission to regional journalism courses (Odia, Urdu, Marathi, and Malayalam) was held on May 25, 2019.

Shiksha visited an IIMC Entrance Exam Centre in R.K Puram where around 400 to 500 students had appeared for Journalism paper, 404 students had appeared for the Radio & TV Journalism and 507 students appeared for PR & Advertising to know the feedback of students regarding the difficulty level of exam.

IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction for Journalism

The Journalism paper was conducted for two hours. Maximum marks allotted to the paper was 75. IIMC exam pattern for this paper remained same as last year. The questions on current affairs focused on recent events like Lok Sabha Elections, Surgical Strike etc. The paper aimed at assessing candidates regarding current issues, communication skills and analytical bent of mind.

Dharmendra, a graduate from Hans Raj College, Delhi University, said, “This is my first attempt. As per the paper is concerned, it was a very good paper. It is focused on the recent issues going on in our country. Elections were very well covered in the paper.There was a question on climate emergency that Ireland has announced. I found the paper to be very precise.”

Aveek Banerjee from Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies said, “It was a good paper. I found the paper to be easy. Questions from current affairs were based on most recent events”

Bhavika Bharadwaj who is a working professional said, “The paper was not that difficult. The overall paper was easy in terms of difficulty level. The paper was framed in line with the recent events. The grammar portion was quiet interesting.”

Shristi Arora who is a working professional said, “The paper was medium to difficult level. The questions were pretty straight forward from recent current affairs that happened in 2019. The section-wise difficulty of MCQs were average. Some of them were very direct and some were indepth.”

Ayushi, a graduate from Technical Institute of Advanced Studies said, “The paper was easy to moderate. It depends how you write it. The first part of the paper comprised of MCQ based questions, the second and third part was note and paragraph writing. You had to attempt 2 questions in all the questions. Fourth part was short where had to attempt 2 questions of 5 marks. Last part was of English.”

Sanchit from  Trinity College said, “The paper was easy but lengthy. Most questions were general knowledge based. Anyone having sound knowledge of current affairs will definitely get good marks.”

Amreen from Lakshmibai College said, “I have appeared for the first time. The question paper was easy which demanded precise discussion and information. The basic motive of the question paper was to test your viewpoint of the political events.  The paper focused on the current affairs in and around the world.”

IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction for Radio & Television Journalism

Students who appeared for Radio & Television Journalism found the paper to moderate to difficult with slight changes in the exam pattern. The paper had 75 questions which candidates had to solve within 2 hours. The paper had abbreviations for 5 marks, fill in the blanks for 5 marks, description of personality for 5 marks, short note of 15 marks, paragraph writing etc. The students said that the current affairs questions were same as Journalism paper.

Shakambari, a graduate in Journalism (Hons) from Banaras Hindu University said, “The paper was bit confusing. Last year, I have seen there were questions from yojnas, schemes. This time, there some confusing names and foreign relations were given in the paper. The paper was difficult compared to last year.”

Riya, a graduate IMS Unison University said, “The overall paper was tough. I read the questions of previous years’ and found that the paper of this year was difficult. I thought that there will be questions on translation because it appeared for last three to four years. Surprisingly, there were not a single question on translation. Instead they gave us to write full forms and description about famous personalities. IIMC had given us one booklet but I did not find it to be useful because the pattern was changed.”

Rachin who is student of IP University said, “I appeared for the first time. The paper was quiet balanced when it comes to time section and word limit. The subjective questions were good. Current affairs were easy. The fill in the blanks questions were bit confusing. The subjective questions on channels you like the most were easy. The full forms were also easy.”

Akshay, a graduate in Journalism and Mass Communication from Amity University said, “The overall paper was easy. Section A of question paper which asked us to write full forms were difficult. The international personalities were in news was also difficult, rest the paper was good.”

IIMC Entrance Exam Student Reaction for PR & Advertising

Students who had for Advertising & PR course gave a mixed reaction regarding the difficulty level of exam. Some found the paper to be difficult and some found it to be easy. The overall paper was moderate to difficult. The exam paper had 75 questions which candidates were required to solve within 2 hours. Dhristi, a BSc Biotechnology student from Amity University said, “I have appeared for all the three papers. The paper was good and easy. There were 5 five questions in each sections.”

Jitesh who have come all the way from Rajasthan to appear found the paper to good but difficult. He said, “The first question of the paper was tough. If anyone has worked hard then their chances of selection is high.”

Alvira, a graduate from Miranda House said, “The paper was easy if you are aware of the recent events. 15 marks objective questions had come from the owner of popular brands and full form of the association. Questions were asked based on visual logos. Other questions were creative and subjective. There was a marked changed from the last year’s question paper. Questions were different from last year. The overall difficulty was fair enough.”

Mansi, a student of BBA LLB said, “This is the first I have appeared for PR and Advertising exam. Compared to last year, the paper was difficult. Last year, there were no optional based questions but this year the scenario was different. All and all it was totally different exam than last year.”

Atreya Mukherjee, a graduate in History (Hons) from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College said, “This is my first attempt. It is too easy or difficult. The paper was lengthy. We had to write a paragraph of 300 to 200 words.”
