IIM Ahmedabad admissions is based on entrance. Therefore, candidates must qualify the eligibility criteria and secure valid scores in CAT entrance exams. Moreoever, candidates ae required to apply for admission through the official website of IIMA. The percentile of CAT for IIM Ahmedabad reached up to 99.6 in the past years which shows how rigorous it is for a student to get admission to this Institute. Candidates are shortlisted for these programmes based on course-specific entrance exams, followed by shortlisting processes which generally comprise a Personal Interview (PI) round.

- First Class master's or postgraduate Diploma degree in any stream and a three-year bachelor's degree with at least 50% aggregate, OR
- CA with a minimum of 50% aggregate or CS/ CMA with a minimum of 55% aggregate along with a BCom degree, OR
- BTech degree of four years duration with 6.5 CGPA or equivalent, OR
- Non-engineering candidates, who have undergone 10+2+5 years, are also eligible to apply for the doctoral programme
- In addition, applicants must have obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate either at SSC/HSC-level
- A final-year student appearing for the Bachelor's degree examination in Engineering or Master's degree examination in any discipline can also apply. Such a candidate, if selected, will be provisionally admitted provided he completes all requirements for obtaining the degree before June 30, of the admission year. Admission of the candidate will remain provisional until the candidate produces mark sheets proving that he satisfies the eligibility criteria. The deadline for submitting the final year degree mark sheets is December 31 of the admission year.

Then comes IIM Calcutta (Kolkata), third among the trio of IIM ABC. It is among the oldest IIMs, in line with the other two oldest IIMs – Ahmedabad and Bangalore. What gives it an edge over the two is the number of seats. It has the highest number of seats among all the IIMs currently and has 233 seats for general category students. This is a big number as compared to other IIMs.
Candidates who wish to take admission to the EMBA programme offered at IIM Visakhapatnam have to meet minimum eligibility requirement. In order to take admission to the EMBA programme, candidates must be an Indian national residing in India only and must have passed a minimum of three year Bachelor's degree examination with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for NC-OBC/ EWS category candidates and 40% for SC/ ST/ PwD) category candidates) and must have a minimum of three years of full-time work experience as of the closing date of the respective application window at an officer/ executive level or higher, as a professional, or as an entrepreneur.
IIM Lucknow features next in the list. It has 211 seats for general category students. The college has fared quite well over a period of three decades. It has some of the best faculty members. After IIM ABC, it is the top choice for students. The college has a lush green campus along with good infrastructure. The placement is top notch and many big firms visit campus to hire candidates.

IIM Bangalore considers two kinds of CAT scores for MBA admission - Qualifying and Final score. Qualifying CAT score is the minimum sectional and overall CAT score used to shortlist students for the Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. Candidates above minimum cutoffs in the sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and having a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT are considered for the next stage.
