How I converted my IIM Bangalore call: Ruchika Bhartiya
Securing a seat in IIM Bangalore, one of the most prestigious MBA colleges, is no more than a dream come true for any MBA aspirant. Ruchika Bhartiya appeared for CAT 2017 with the hope of being a part of the esteemed college. Her happiness knew no boundaries when she cleared the exam with flying colors and received a call from her dream college.
Ruchika is a BCom (Hons.) graduate & has 1 year of work experience. She left her job to prepare for MBA, and her perseverance finally paid off when she converted her IIM Bangalore call. Shiksha got in touch with Ruchika to know about her WAT-PI experience. The interview was conducted on March 13, 2018 at Delhi. Read her full interview below:
WAT Topic
Countries such as UAE and BHUTAN have happiness index to oversee social welfare programmes for the wellbeing of citizens. One Indian state has also created a ministry of happiness. Comment on this development.
Next was the personal interview round which lasted for 30 mins. It was a good discussion
The panel consisted of 3 members: P1- male professor, P2- female alumnus and P3- female professor.
P3: You work with Bain?
Me: No mam! I left my job.
P3: Why did you leave your job?
Me: To prepare for MBA.
P3: That means you can’t multitask?
Me: No Ma’am that is not the case. However, MBA being very crucial for me, I chose not to take a risk and give more than my 100%.
P2: What if you don't make it this year?
Me: I will try again next year and simultaneously work on my business idea.
P3: So what did you do during your job?
Me: Told
P3: Went into more specifics
Me: I discussed my casework and then there was a healthy discussion about how and what I did. (All this was more on the lines of learnings and teamwork, etc.)
(I was telling them about cement industry in APAC)
P2: What are the regulations or market for cement industry in India?
Me: I am not sure about regulations but I can tell you about macroeconomic view.
(Told about market slowing a little but looking positive due to push to infra and need for housing, discussed govt. Schemes)
P1: Which sector are you interested in?
Me: Told about the sector I want to enter and we had a long discussion on my views and they asked me to market size and related questions in between the answer.
P3: Who is Amala Goswami? (Read from my SOP, I had got an award by her name)
Me: Told
P1: What are you passionate about?
Me: I said I love to talk and thus I am passionate about Marketing.
P1: So what is biggest challenge you have faced, and how this passion of talking helped you through?
Me: Told.
P3: Why MBA then?
Me: Told about the need of MBA and how IIM Bangalore would act as a facilitator in the big picture.
Verdict: Converted!

Check the category wise minimum percentage required to apply for the exam:
- General Category- 50%
- NC OBC and EWS- 45%
- SC, ST, PwD (DA)- 40%
The institute also accepts CUET GAT scores or CUET General Test scores. The minimum percentage required is:
- General Category: 70 percentile
- NC OBC, EWS: 65 percentile

Yes, students belonging to General category have to pay INR 3000 as the IIMB BBA DBE application fee. The reserved category students, i.e. SC, ST and PwD, get a 50% fee concession. This means, they have to pay INR 1500 as the application fee.
