I was working with a media and advertising start-up with a dynamic work-culture – The Media Ant, where I tested waters in marketing, advertising and management skills. This opportunity strengthened my interests in marketing.  Being passionate about Marketing while also empathising with consumer needs appealed to me, I wanted to hone my management skills & learn frameworks to put this into practice. Hence I decided to pursue an MBA.

To manifest my aspirations, I looked for a Master's programme that provides international exposure with a dynamic yet industry-centric curriculum SDA Bocconi Asia Center checked all the boxes for me during my search since it is the Asian presence of the coveted SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan, Italy, vetted to deliver a global education in the Asian setting. While it ranks high globally, the semester in Milan is one of the most-awaited moments as we get to study with students from various parts of the world.

SDA Bocconi Asia Center checked all the boxes for me during my search since it is the Asian presence of the coveted SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan, Italy, vetted to deliver a global education in the Asian setting.

Although we started the current academic year virtually, the school provided the students with state-of-the-art access to technology to ease out virtual classrooms. International Master in Business(IMB) programme boasts of international faculty with an enriching experience in teaching students at eminent universities in India and abroad. To encourage peer-to-peer learning amongst the highly diverse batch of students, the B-school has various professional clubs and external activities to encourage maximum participation and boost knowledge. While students get to have a 360-degree exposure to the management world, we are also given ample opportunities to head the prestigious committee and club positions where the management skills are put to test. To build a strong foothold for myself in the field of marketing, I contended to head the Media Committee and was selected as a Content Head as well as, I am a member of the marketing and consulting clubs. There are numerous avenues to compete in B-school competitions including notable ones like the Hult Prize.

Reminiscing the journey of how I was destined to be here takes me back to the same time, last year in December 2019 when I got my offer letter. With a focused preparation, I worked on my CV, essay questions, entrance test and the personal interview, most importantly, it was a phase to answer questions like ‘Who I am and What I want to become?’. The admissions team was extremely responsive and guided me throughout the process. They had also connected me with senior students to uphold transparency and help me with real insights into the daily life of a Bocconian. The school accepts NMAT, GMAT, CAT and Bocconi Test scores, although there is no ‘cutoff’ in test scores, the school suggests that safe scores (CAT: 90 percentile, NMAT: 200, GRE: 314, GMAT: 640) around which an applicant has good chance to get a profile based interview call.

The school looks at the overall profile with a consistent yet exemplary academic record, work experience, extra-curricular activities, test scores and finally you as a person who could make a difference in the management field.

Our batch is extremely diverse representing 20 states of India. Every student has a unique background, we have entrepreneurs, bloggers, engineers and a doctor among other commerce and management students in our batch with work-experience spanning from freshers to people with three to five years of experience.

With challenging assignments, certificate courses (example- data analytics, lean six-sigma) and appropriate exposure to the corporate world, we are enabled to acquire hands-on management skills. Additionally, corporate executives host guest lectures and the Career Development Services team collaborating with the Placement Committee hold informative sessions and have excellent corporate relations with aspirational companies to get us work-ready.

The curriculum is rigorous, and I plan my week to manage my time between lectures, assignments, live project, committee work and finally earn some me-time by effectively managing my clock. Focus and time management are extremely vital to navigate through masters and I am sure it will help to solve business scenarios with ease.
