The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu recently organized a Business Plan Ideathon and workshop, showcasing its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and skill development. The event was held under the leadership of Professor B S Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, and was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, and the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce (DICCI).
Inauguration and Keynote Addresses
The function was inaugurated by Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, Deputy Commissioner/District Development Commissioner, who was joined by Javid Iqbal, Principal of Government Polytechnic College, Bandipora. Asim Khan, a renowned scientist, also graced the event as the Guest of Honour.
In his keynote address, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri underscored the crucial role of skilling and the effective marketing of these skills. He highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between skill development and market needs, stressing the contribution of Skill Development and Business Units (SBDUs) toward fostering self-employment.
Program Overview and Key Insights
The session began with an introduction to the SBDU program and the Ideathon by Ishfaq, Coordinator of SBDU Bandipora. Dr. Vivek Sharma, Chief Innovation Officer at IIM Jammu, elaborated on the innovation and incubation support provided by the IIM Jammu Incubation Centre (DST-i-TBI) located at the Jagti campus in Jammu and the ThinkIn incubator in Nowgam, Srinagar.
Naren Karunankarn, Consultant for SBDU, shared valuable insights into the SBDU program, while Dr. Shahid Jibran, Project Manager for SBDU, discussed the growing business opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir and the role of SBDUs in nurturing young entrepreneurs.
Participant Engagement and Outcomes
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from across North Kashmir, with numerous dignitaries from various colleges attending. It provided a unique platform for participants to showcase their business ideas, receive expert feedback, and explore opportunities for further capacity building and business incubation.
The workshop aimed to refine participants’ business concepts, address real-world challenges, and provide a supportive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Acknowledgments and Conclusion
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Rukhsana Bashir, SBDU Incharge Bandipora. The Business Plan Ideathon and workshop highlighted IIM Jammu’s ongoing efforts to support and develop entrepreneurial talent and strengthen the link between skill development and market needs.
