• Bachelor's degree in any field: You are eligible to apply for the M.A. in Ancient History and Archaeology with your Bachelor of Political Science degree, as the eligibility criteria simply requires "any Bachelor's Degree" from a recognized university.
• Merit-based selection: Admissions are primarily based on your marks in your undergraduate degree.
• Application dates: For the 2025-2026 academic year, the application period was from April to July 2025. You should monitor the University of Madras website in early 2026 for the admission notification for the next academic year.
• Two streams: The program has both a regular, merit-based stream and a self-supportive stream. Both have different fee structures. 

• Field work: You will get hands-on experience through fieldwork and site exploration.
• Indian context: The curriculum places a strong emphasis on Indian archaeology, including topics such as:
  • Pre- and Proto-history of India
  • Indian Epigraphy (the study of inscriptions) and Numismatics (the study of coins)
  • The history of Indian temple architecture
• Modern techniques: You will also be introduced to modern developments in the field, such as underwater archaeology, remote sensing, and computer-based methods.
• Research methodology: The course includes training in research methodologies to prepare you for further academic pursuits or research-oriented careers.
