The online/distance degrees offered by the Centre for Distance and Online Education at Annamalai University are valid. Previously, the University Grants Commission (UGC) did not approve its courses starting from 2015. However, Annamalai University DDE  received relief from the Madras High Court in an order dated 21.01.2023. Subsequently, following a reassessment by the UGC, Annamalai DDE achieved a qualifying score of 3.38, which led to extending the validity of its programmes until 2027.

Annamalai University Distance Education offers admission to candidates based on their merit. Candidates can get a seat directly through Spot Admission. Aspirants have to submit the filled-in application form along with the documents to the nearest Learners Support Centre or LSC in-person to get direct admission. The university offers four-year full-time BE/BTech courses in various specialisations on-campus and through affiliated colleges.
