NLU Ranchi Admission 2025: Courses, Fees, Selection and Application Process

NLU Ranchi offers three courses at UG, PG and doctoral levels. The university offers BA LLB (Hons) at the UG and LLM at the PG level. Candidates must complete a minimum of Class 12 for UG and graduation for PG programmes. Admission to both UG and PG courses is based on CLAT score. The university is also expected to begin BBA LLB (Hons) and PG Diploma programmes in the coming session.

The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) is indeed one of the prominent law schools in Ranchi, offering BA LLB (Hons) and LLM programmes. The university has subsequently been recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC). According to media reports, the the highest package offered during NLU Ranchi placements 2023 stood at INR 16 LPA. 

No, NLU Ranchi (NUSRL) - National University of Study and Research In Law admissions are currently not open for the academic year 2025. Candidates can appear for the CLAT exam, which is scheduled to be held on Dec 7, 2025 to take admission in NLU Ranchi (NUSRL) - National University of Study and Research In Law for the next admission cycle. 

Candidates need to pass LLB or a five-year integrated BA LLB/ any other equivalent exam with a minimum of 55% aggregate to apply for NLU Ranchi LLM course. Besides, candidates must also pass CLAT for admission in LLM programme. One must also hold the documents proving their eligibility for verification at the time of admission.

For admission to BA LLB (Hons) course at NLU Ranchi candidates have to register through CLAT portal. Registered candidates for CLAT Counselling will be called by NLU Ranchi through five provisional merit lists, each released by the Consortium of CLAT. Candidates, who have been allocated a seat in the provisional lists and applied for revision, should check the status of their seat in the CLAT provisonal lists. After, that the candidates need to report to NLU Ranchi for admission. 

NLU Ranchi cutoff 2023 was concluded after the release of Round 5 Seat Allotment Result. As per the NLU Ranchi cutoff 2023, the Round 5 opening rank was 1842 for BA LLB (Hons) programme. The last round closing rank stood at 1895 for the General category students from Vertical Reservations.  

Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) released the institute wise and course-wise CLAT Provisional Allotment lists on the official website at consortiumofnlus.ac.in/clat-2023 for NLU admissions to BA LLB and LLM programmes. 

NLU Ranchi admissions for UG and PG courses opens with CLAT registration. CLAT applications are usually open in July and go on till October. Candidates have to apply for CLAT online. There is no deadline released for PhD course. Once the applications are open, candidates can apply for PhD on the official website of NLU Ranchi.

Candidates applying for BA LLB (Hons) or LLM course have to fill out the CLAT application form. For PhD, aspirants need to register on the official website of NUSRL. Below are the steps to apply:

Step 1: Visit the official website of NUSRL.

Step 2: Click on the application link available and fill out the application form.

Step 3: Upload the documents and pay the application fee.

Step 4: Submit the form.

Candidates wishing to apply for BA LLB (Hons) course at NLU Ranchi are required to fill out the CLAT application form. 

Candidates are required to pay an application fee for CLAT. The application fee is INR 4,000 for General/OBC/PWD/PIO/OCI/NRI category candidates and INR 3,500 for SC/ST/BPL category candidates. The following steps should be followed for CLAT registration:

Step 1: Go to the official CLAT website.

Step 2: Click on "Click Here" to fill out the registration form.

Step 3: Register yourself by clicking on the register button.

Step 4: Fill out the application form by entering the necessary information.

Step 5: Submit the application form along with a passport-size photo.

Step 6: Pay the CLAT application fee online using debit/credit cards or net banking.

Students wishing to apply for scholarship at NLU Ranchi can download the form from the university website. Students from whom applications are not received within the stipulated time are not considered for award of any scholarship. Students must enclose the scholarship with income certificate (duly verified by CSC) disclosing the total income of the family/ guardian of the applicant. 

NLU Ranchi provides Merit Scholarship to students with good academic record. Below is the criteria that students must meet to apply for the scholarship:

• The students should be enrolled as an UG student of the university
• His or her cumulative CGPA of all the previous semesters should not be less than six
• Merit scholarship is awarded based on the higher secured CGPA of the previous
  year
• If a candidate is availing any other scholarship/ financial aid greater than or equal to INR 50,000, he/she is not eligible for Merit Scholarship

The scholarship by NLU Ranchi is awarded in the form of a waiver of the tuition fees of the student to the extent of INR 50,000 for the year of award. The scholarship is awarded at the end of each academic year from second year to fifth year only. The objective behind giving the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students.
