CLAT Exam Guidelines 2027

Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) is expected to conduct CLAT 2027 exam in December 2026 for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes offered by participating National Law Universities. Those willing to appear for CLAT 2027 should not only focus on their preparation but also be familiar with official exam day guidelines to avoid any last-minute issues at test centre. 

Following code of conduct, carrying required documents and avoiding prohibited items are important for a smooth exam process. Candidates are also advised to reach CLAT exam centre well before reporting time and follow instructions issued by invigilators. CLAT 2027 Exam Day Bell Timings

Candidates can check tentative bell timing for CLAT exam in table below

Q:   What is the duration of CLAT PG exam?
A: 

The CLAT PG Exam will be held for duration of two hours; i.e. from 2 pm to 4 pm. Candidates have to answer 120 questions in the given time frame. The scores of CLAT LLM 2027 score will be accepted by 19 NLUs in the country. 

Q:   What is good rank in CLAT exam?
A: 

A good rank in the CLAT exam for general category students is under 1,000–1,500 to secure admission in top-tier National Law Universities (NLUs). A rank under 500 is considered excellent for the top 5 NLUs, while a rank up to 3,000–5,000 can still secure a seat in newer, mid-tier NLUs. 

Q:   How many NLUs participate in CLAT Exam?
A: 

As of 2026, 26 National Law Universities (NLUs) participate in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). These universities offer undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs, with over 5,600 seats available in total. NLU Delhi is the only exception, conducting its own entrance exam (AILET) rather than participating in CLAT

Q:   What to carry on the CLAT Exam day?
A: 

Apart from the CLATAdmit Card,  candidates must carry the following documents to the exam centre:

  • Passport-sized photograph (same as the one uploaded with the application form)
  • A valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar card/ Driving Licence/ PAN Card/ Passport/ Voter ID)
  • Transparent water bottle

CLAT 2027 Items to Carry to Exam Centre

Candidates appearing for CLAT 2027 should carry these items to allotted exam centre

  • Carry a printed copy of CLAT admit card. Entry to exam centre will not be allowed without it

  • Bring an original photo ID such as an Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, Driving Licence or any other government-issued ID

  • If photo on admit card is unclear, carry a recent attested passport-size photograph matching one uploaded during registration

  • Candidates applying under Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category must carry their disability certificate

  • Carry a blue or black ball-point pen to fill in details on OMR sheet and admit card. Pens of other colours may not be allowed

  • Carry transparent water bottle, as drinking water may not be provided inside exam centre.

  • A simple analogue wristwatch is allowed. Smartwatches or digital watches are not permitted

Q:   What is the CLAT exam duration?

The CLAT exam duration is two hours for both the Undergraduate and Postgraduate. It will have 120 multiple choice questions. For each correct answer one makrs will be given and -0.25 will be deducted for incorrect ones.

A: 

The CLAT Exam is conducted by consortiumofnlus.ac.in. All those candidates who are looking forward to getting admission at NLUs must appear for the exam. Apart from NLU Delhi, admission to all the NLUs are done through CLAT.

CLAT 2027 Exam Day Guidelines & Instructions

Candidates can check CLAT exam day guidelines that they must follow before and after entering test centre

Before entering CLAT Centre 

Major instructions that candidates must follow before entering test centre include

  • Reporting time: All candidates are required to report to the allotted CLAT exam center at least one hour before the commencement of the exam, i.e., by 1:00 PM. It is to be noted that no candidate is allowed to enter the exam hall 15 minutes after the commencement of the exam.
  • Baggage: Candidates are advised to carry only minimal items to the CLAT test centre. All the baggage will be kept outside the centre, and the authorities will not be responsible for any loss or damage to items.
  • Document verification: The admit card, along with the original photo ID proof, will be checked by the centre authorities at the entry gate. Therefore, candidates have to keep them ready and handy for verification.
  • If a candidate is suffering from an illness, they will have to carry their medication. If the candidate needs an isolated facility to attempt the test due to illness they can write to nodalofficer-pwd@consortiumofnlus.ac.in

CLAT exam day guidelines for PWDs and Specially abled persons

Candidates appearing for CLAT exam under PWD/ Specially-abled persons criteria must check important instructions below

  • Total time provided to PwDs/SAPs in CLAT will be 40 minutes extra, i.e. 2 hours and 40 minutes
  • PwDs/ SAPs candidates will have to carry their original Disability Certificate to exam centre on day of CLAT
  • PwDs/SAPs who wish to make arrangements for getting their personal scribe will have to inform Consortium and bear associated costs
  • PwDs/SAPs candidates who wish to avail this facility of a scribe through Consortium will have to send an email to with duly filled proformas given below  

CLAT Exam Instructions 2027 to be followed Inside Exam Centre

Candidates must follow guidelines when at exam centre. During reporting, candidates have to follow these

  • Follow all instructions given by invigilator during exam
  • Sign admit card only in presence of invigilator
  • Do not use any unfair means, as it may lead to disqualification
  • Do not leave exam hall before exam ends, and submit OMR sheet before exiting
  • Candidates can take CLAT question paper and carbon copy of OMR sheet after exam

How to Use CLAT 2027 OMR Response Sheet?

While filling CLAT OMR sheet, candidates must keep in mind these points

  • Pen: Candidates should only use a black or blue ball-point pen to write on the admit card or mark their answers on OMR sheet
  • Marking the answer: Candidates should indicate only one answer by shading a circle from given options
  • Shading of circle: Candidates should shade circle on the OMR sheet entirely without leaving any space. Incomplete circles will not be considered for evaluation. Questions in which candidates shade two circles will also not be evaluated

Yes, candidates can get admission in BA LLB at Silver Oak University without CLAT. Admission can be offered based on merit in Class 12. Candidates need minimum 45% aggregate in Class 12 or equivalent from a recognised board to be eligible for admission.

No, the Consortium has confirmed that no changes will be made to the CLAT Exam Pattern 2027. It must be noted that CLAT Syllabus will also remain the same.

No, candidates who fulfill OP Jindal Global University BA LLB (hons) eligibility criteria cannot apply with a CLAT-UG score. This institute only accepts admission based on LNAT-UK entrance exam. No other entrance exams are accepted during admissions form this course.

Yes, CLAT is not compulsory. You can respectfully gain admission by clearing the university's own NMIMS-LAT entrance exam instead. Applications can be submitted directly through the official NMIMS website.

No, CLAT is compoulsory for admission in BA LLB at Oriental University. The college accepts CLAT as one of the accepted entrance exams for BA LLB admission at Oriental University. It also considers merit in Class 12 for admission in BA LLB.
