NLU Ranchi Admission 2025: Courses, Fees, Selection and Application Process

NLU Ranchi offers three courses at UG, PG and doctoral levels. The university offers BA LLB (Hons) at the UG and LLM at the PG level. Candidates must complete a minimum of Class 12 for UG and graduation for PG programmes. Admission to both UG and PG courses is based on CLAT score. Candidates need to pass LLB or a five-year integrated BA LLB/ any other equivalent exam with a minimum of 55% aggregate to apply for NLU Ranchi LLM course. Besides, candidates must also pass CLAT for admission in LLM programme. One must also hold the documents proving their eligibility for verification at the time of admission.

For admission to BA LLB (Hons) course at NLU Ranchi candidates have to register through CLAT portal. The total fee for a 5 year course is INR 5.50 Lakh, which is broken down to INR 1,10,000 per year or INR 55,000 per semester. This can be considered a little expensive. Then there is a One-time payment which is INR 42,500, it is mandatory. Apart from that there is a hostel fee which is 2.39 Lakh for the entire course duration. 

So the total fee excluding the hostel fee becomes INR 6,00,000 for the whole course and if the hostel is included then the fee becomes INR 8.31 Lakh. Which can be quite expensive. However, there are scholarships based on merit, income, and minority. 

However, the college provides good ROI. The average salary package offered was INR 10 LPA. 

As of now, CLAT Round 3 Seat Allotment results have been released for NLU Ranchi cutoff 2024. The All India opening and closing ranks for NLU Ranchi for the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) is 1432 for the General category under the Vertical Reservation.

CLNU is expected to release a total of five rounds of counselling. For the LL.M. in Intellectual Property Rights course the All India opening and closing ranks for NLU Ranchi 1300 for the General category All India candidates. The CNLU will release CLAT Round 4 Seat Allotment result on May 20, 2024.

Students wishing to apply for scholarship at NLU Ranchi can download the form from the university website. Students from whom applications are not received within the stipulated time are not considered for award of any scholarship. Students must enclose the scholarship with income certificate (duly verified by CSC) disclosing the total income of the family/ guardian of the applicant. 

NLU Ranchi provides Merit Scholarship to students with good academic record. Below is the criteria that students must meet to apply for the scholarship:

• The students should be enrolled as an UG student of the university
• His or her cumulative CGPA of all the previous semesters should not be less than six
• Merit scholarship is awarded based on the higher secured CGPA of the previous
  year
• If a candidate is availing any other scholarship/ financial aid greater than or equal to INR 50,000, he/she is not eligible for Merit Scholarship

Candidates are advised to give minimum one year to six months of preparation time to crack CLAT exam with high scores. CLAT is one of the most competitive law entrance exam, and candidates need to devote their time sufficiently to surpass cutoff marks. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 is expected to be held on December 7, 2025. For qualifying CLAT exam with maximum marks, candidates have to prepare exhaustively, but in a strategic manner.
