Established in 2003- 2004 by the government of TN, Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) is for open and distance learning courses. The university is recognised by the UGC, Distance Education Council (DEC), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). TNOU is accredited with NAAC A+ Grade.
Tamil Nadu Open University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu offers 200+ undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, PG diploma and vocational diploma courses across various specialisations. These programmes of study are offered across multiple disciplines and skills at different levels from certificate to postgraduate, which are imparted through 11 academic schools, 5 support divisions and a robust network of 515 learner support and service centres across the state. Tamil Nadu Open University offers two-year B.Ed Special Education in distance education mode through the Department of Special Education. Besides, the university also offers two-year B.Ed programme. However, the student-teacher is
permitted to complete within a maximum period of 5 years, after the enrolment.
The duration for B.Ed Spl.Ed is two-years for candidates with RCI recognised D.Ed Specialisation Education, Candidates can complete the programme within a maximum period of four years, after enrolment. STEP 2: Selection Criteria
Tamil Nadu Open University selects candidates based on their merit in the qualifying exam. Selected candidates need to participate in the admission counselling. During the counselling process, candidates are allotted learner support centers. The final step of admission is to pay the TNOU BSc fees.
Tamil Nadu Open University selects candidates for B.Ed based on their merit in the last qualifying exam. For B.Ed Special Education, the university conducts an entrance exam. Tamil Nadu Open University offers both B.Ed and B.Ed Spl.Ed. for two-year each. Below is the minimum academic qualification required to apply for any of the programmes:
- Aspirants must pass bachelor's or master's degree in relevant subjects with at least 50% aggregate to apply for TNOU B.Ed and B.Ed Spl.Ed. programme.
- Candidates with bachelor's in Engineering or Technology with specialisation in Science and Mathematics with a minimum of 55% aggregate can also apply.
- There is relaxation in the aggregate for reserved category candidates. Aspirants belonging to BC/ BCM need 45% aggregate, 43% for MBC/ DNC and 40% for SC/ SCA/ ST in graduation.
