AI in Education: How Personalized Learning Platforms Enhance Engagement and Student Learning

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the educational landscape around the globe. The introduction of personalised learning platforms that cater to the individual needs of students has been a game-changer for learning. By assessing the progress of the student, these AI platforms provide tailored study plans and adapt the curriculum as per the learning pace of the student which in turn improves learning outcomes, enhances student engagement, and makes educational accessible for everyone. 

The role of AI in personalised learning for students' needs 

Traditional education usually follows a one-size-fits-all approach. In most schools and colleges, there is one teacher who is teaching a handful of students at the same pace. Some students may lose interest because the classes may not seem challenging enough, while others may struggle to keep up with the basics. On the other hand, AI learning platforms first aim to understand the learning pace of a student by studying their strengths, weaknesses, preferred method of learning, as well as learning patterns. This data is then used to create tailored lesson plans. This ensures that each student is able to learn at their own pace, allowing students to feel confident, motivated, and engaged.

If a student is unable to understand a concept, he or she can simply ask the AI chatbot for real-time information and use this feedback to enhance understanding.  Such AI-powered tools are great for asking questions, getting detailed answers, guiding students, offering multiple explanations, and essentially acting as virtual tutors to help students learn at their own pace. 

The role of Generative AI in personalised learning  

Generative AI allows for tailor-made education and dynamic teaching which creates a unique learning experience for each student. Generative AI can understand the performance of a learner and customise content in real-time in a manner that almost mimic human interactions. For instance, if a student is struggling to learn a certain topic online, ChatGPT will provide alternative explanations, as would a teacher, to help the student understand better; this is a form of generative AI that acts as an on-demand tutor, explaining difficult concepts and adapting responses based on learning pace. As a result, generative AI enhances engagement while providing efficient results.  

The role of AI in improving learning outcomes for students  

AI learning platforms can help improve learning and academic performance by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of a student. By monitoring the way a student learns, these AI platforms can understand the areas in which students need support as well as the areas in which the student excels. For instance, if a commerce student excels in Mathematics but struggles with Accounts, an AI platform can identify this trend and use the data to help the student focus on the basics of accounting while assigning more advanced topics in mathematics. 

 If teachers and educators start using AI-driven platforms in their classrooms, these platforms will alert them to areas where a student is struggling or needs additional help. Teachers can then change their teaching methods or allot extra time to certain topics to ensure that no student struggles. This will also help teachers and educators create more efficient lesson plans which will help students succeed. 

The future of AI in education 

As AI continues to evolve, its role in education will continue to expand. Thanks to AI, traditional barriers like location, finances, circumstances, and even learning disabilities are no longer a hindrance; students can now learn from anywhere in the world, at their own convenience. AI has the potential to revolutionise education, making it more efficient, engaging, and accessible, thus enhancing student engagement and improving educational outcomes while bridging learning gaps.
