Some buzzwords of the contemporary era are New Normal, Work from Home, Online Pharmacy, and Online Shopping. But when it comes to electric vehicles - can they become the new normal? This is a hot topic among people and everyone is sceptical about what will happen to this industry.

The electric vehicle industry is still on a major upward trajectory, all thanks to recent developments. The world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla is all set to launch its electric cars in India this year. Elon Musk Teslas were once considered a joke when he started designing the cars and now they are a common sight on roads across the world.

Electric vehicles are slowly becoming present everywhere. They are cleaner and much more efficient.

The electric vehicle future of India in the next decade looks fully bright. The battery prices are dropping down by 73% since 2010 and electric cars are expected to be budget-friendly as compared to fuel-powered cars in the upcoming future. The International Energy Agency predicts that by 2025, 70 million electric vehicles will be on the road. Countries around the world are recognising the potential of electric vehicles.

Where countries like China are incentivising e-mobility with tax breaks, EV credit policies, others like the UK, Norway, and India are looking to adopt substantially. Under the “Make in India” programme, the production of electric vehicles will augment the share of manufacturing in India’s GDP to 25% by 2022. Also, 30% of the vehicles on Indian roads by 2030 will be electric vehicles.

Delving deep into the electric vehicle future of India, experts state that the most lucrative and huge market is of two-wheelers as they play a major role in the country’s overall mobility. The total number of two-wheeled electric vehicles sold in 2019 was 1.52 lakh.

The increasing vehicle population denotes millions of local, green, and highly skilled jobs. Creating and designing effective solutions for electric vehicles is a future career builder for engineers.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship states that the electric vehicle future in India is dynamic. This industry will generate 1 crore jobs by 2030. And for every single direct job, there will be five indirect jobs in society. This makes the total employment by the electric vehicle industry to be 5 crores.

Career Scope

From electric vehicles to solar power- the future of energy is renewable. This makes it one of the most rewarding fields for students to enter. The electric vehicle field is ever-evolving and provides intellectual stimulation. The industry has a huge demand for new knowledge and innovative skills.
