Gujarat University - Placements

Gujarat University has been ranked among the top universities in Gujarat and the country. The university is also known for its decent placements. The university has a separate placement cell that takes care of all the placement-related activities during the placement season. The university has recently launched a separate website for its placement cell. The placement cell is mainly responsible for getting a good number of organisations to the campus for recruitment across various streams and departments. The placement cell also gets internship opportunities and live projects for eligible students in different courses and streams. The highest package offered for the 2022 batch was INR 13.58 LPA. For the 2021 passing out batch, 73% of eligible students were placed on day 1 of the placement process for the undergraduate programme. For postgraduate programs, the median package was recorded at INR 9.76 LPA for the 2021 passing-out batch. During the 2021 placements, 22 companies hired 355 students out of 485 eligible students. The branch-wise placements for previous passing-out batches are as follows:

1. Engineering- 19%
2. Operations- 17%
3. Sales-17%
4. Business Development- 26%
5. Other- 21%

Placement process

The placement process varies from company to company depending upon the various tests or selection processes they want to go with as per their company norms for a particular job role. The university has no major role to play in it. They will just coordinate as per the requirements of the recruiter. General aptitude tests, group discussions, HR interviews, technical interviews, and, in some cases, psychometric tests may be administered. If the number of eligible students is higher, they will definitely go for the GD round, as it is an elimination one. As many as three to four rounds of assessments are done for a few positions and organizations. The process starts with the shortlisting of resumes for any organisation, which is done by the organisation itself at its level depending upon the eligibility criteria shared with the university earlier.

Most companies that come to us for placements will meet the following criteria:

• No backlogs
• More than 6.5 CGPA or equivalent percentage
• 70% in 12^th
• 70% in 10^th
• 1-year gap is allowed in the complete education period.

Some of the most common questions asked by interviewers during interviews are as follows:

1. Tell me something about yourself.
2. Tell us something about your family.
3. What are your strengths?
4. What are your weaknesses?
5. What are the financial statements?
6. Do you like investing in stock markets, if yes, how do you choose a company for investing?
7. Why do you want to work with us?
8. Why should we hire you?
9. What are your expectations from the organization?
10. Where do you see yourself after 5 years?
11. What are your short and long-term goals?
12. What are your hobbies?
13. Who is your motivation?

The interviewers also end up asking about current affairs and important developments taking place across the world. If anyone has prior experience, they will ask about the roles and responsibilities in detail, why you left your previous organisation, etc. And technical questions will come from the respective background, and most of the time they will ask about their favourite subject, and the entire interaction will begin from there.

For software companies, it is a must to have sound knowledge in at least one of the languages, be it C, C , or JAVA, and some might be specific that if you know JAVA, you are eligible. If you are from the IT branch, you also have to run a complete code in the specific language asked in the stipulated amount of time. The recruiters for Gujarat University include Trident Financials, Infosys, Federal Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Amazon, ZIP Hire, TCS, EY, HCL, Amazon, Genpact, Kotak Mahindra Bank, etc.

For core branches such as civil engineering, they ask questions from geotechnical engineering, building materials, and structural analysis. Some questions include:

1. What do you understand by "reinforced cement concrete"?
2. What are the steps involved in the concreting process?
3. What do you understand by "curing" and why is it important?
4. What is the nominal concrete proportion for different grades of concrete?
5. What is a slump test, and what are the different types of slumps in a slump test?
6. What do you understand by pre-tensioning and post-tensioning?
