Hostel Facilities at the University of Madras
Independent Hostel Wardens are on duty around the clock, seven days a week, at both hostels of the University of Madras to ensure everyone follows the rules and stays safe.
Almost all of the venerable universities in southern India trace their lineage back to Madras. As of late, only three regions in Tamil Nadu have been designated as the University zone of location. This follows the establishment of several institutions within the State and the delineation of the University districts. This institution has expanded its teaching and research efforts from solid to gold. Using its network of affiliated institutions in and around Chennai, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram, the University provides higher education at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The University's scholarly tone is shaped by teaching and research activities in the arts and humanities, the natural and social sciences, business, and technology. Several affiliates of the University of Madras concentrate on research activities and provide PhD programs in various disciplines. On its four campuses, the University also provides various educational and research opportunities.
Sixty-eight academic departments and centres over four campuses are organised into 18 schools. They all provide graduate-level courses leading to certificates and diplomas as well as low- and full-time doctoral dissertations.
There are dormitories on site for both male and female students. Independent Hostel Wardens are on duty around the clock, seven days a week, at both hostels to ensure everyone follows the rules and stays safe.

Additional Hostel Features
The garden and library at the hostel are great extras for the guests. Washing machines, limited sports facilities, and media/tech rooms may all be found in every good hostel. In a hostel, gatherings are often held in a common area.
Holi, Pongal, Onam, Diwali, and New Year's Eve are just a few of the celebrations that the students partake in. Each hostel has its own yearly celebration called hostel night, complete with a potluck and live music. The graduating seniors from the dorm are also honoured on this day.

The institute provides on-demand bus and mini-auto service between the main gate and other locations inside the campus, such as the Hostel and Academic areas. The large campus encourages students to use bicycles and foot travel. Students are not allowed to drive motorised cars on campus.
Administration of the Hostel
Under the guidance of the Council of Wardens and the Hostel Management, each hostel is autonomous in its internal governance. A warden, an instructor, and an assistant Warden all live in each dorm. Each hostel has a hostel office where the receptionist and wardens are responsible for running the facility.
The Hostel Council is made up of the warden and a number of student secretaries who were chosen to handle matters specific to the hostel. The Hostel Council works with the Mess Committee to oversee the daily operations of each mess and to organise the yearly schedule of events for the students.
The Hostel Council's General Secretary is in charge of overseeing building upkeep and coordinating the efforts of the other secretaries. The Mess Secretary is responsible for coordinating the efforts of the Mess Committee and the Mess Staff in the areas of food procurement, menu planning, and kitchen and dining hall sanitation.
