Industry Experts discuss ‘The Science of Well Being’, Launch of School of Health Sciences at UPES

UPES introduced the School of Health Sciences with graduate level courses. UPES also hosted a conclave on ‘The Science of Well Being’ with industry specialists to discuss the science and management of the health and wellness sector.

Delhi, May 7, 2019: To bridge the gnawing gap in India’s healthcare education, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, a specialization-focused, multi-disciplinary university introduced the School of Health Sciences with graduate level courses. On the sidelines of the announcement, UPES also hosted a conclave on ‘The Science of Well Being’ with industry specialists to discuss the science and management of the health and wellness sector and the instrumental role it will play in building the NextGen of Indian Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Industry.

The conclave was attended by innovators in digital health, start-ups, researchers and academicians, corporates, industry experts and medical practitioners. The speakers enlightened the audience with ideas on how to upskill the human resource and bridge the gap in healthcare across the industry borders.

Topics that were deliberated included, “Food, Nutrition and Dietetics – Developing Talent of the Future” delivered by Celebrity Nutritionist, Founder & MD of Nourish, Pooja Makhija which focused on how nutrition is an expanding area and there is increasing awareness of its role in the disease process. Rohit Anand, Head of Talent Management at Fortis Healthcare Ltd. presented on “Healthcare – Dynamics and Trends in Job Opportunities” highlighting the ‘gap leap’ from the colleges to corporates and the need of design thinking in HR sector of the healthcare industry.

Founder & MD of Nutri Health, Dr. Shikha Nehru Sharma talked about the need for integration of technology with basic education of healthcare and how the silos are breaking down, making way for collaborations as a growth driver. Dr. Sharma was further quoted saying, “Digital marketing has made things easier even on the business side of the healthcare industry and the use of cross-functional technology in the processes have opened several career scopes for the upcoming talent in the field of food nutrition sciences.”

Dr. G. N. Singh, Secretary-cum-Scientific Director India, Delhi Pharmacopoeia Commission and Former-Drugs Controller General, India was also present to enlighten the audience with the need to shift healthcare education towards career-oriented learning, need for an evolved methodology and development of the sense of responsibility in technology amongst the students.

Outlining the future prospects in the health care industry, Dr. Neeraj Mahindroo, Dean of School of Health Sciences was quoted saying, “Innovation in action is important and unless we create a potential difference knowledge won’t flow in the right direction. To bring curiosity amongst the students, we have tapped the technologies that interest the students more than theoretical data. This redesigned health education curriculum will aim at holistic learning and make students industry ready to transform the dynamics of the healthcare industry.”

The discussions at the conclave also threw light upon the paradigm shift in the industry from sick care to health care and the progress towards a future of ‘Creating Technologies to Detect Ailments.’

No, candidates cannot get direct admissions in the UPES Dehradun MBA courses. Admissions to all BBA courses are based on entrance exam scores either obtained in UPESMET or national/state level MBA exams.
