My Nursing Journey at GNM Nursing Training School: A Story of Determination and Growth
Since childhood, I have had different visions for my future career. When I was in High school, I aspired to become a teacher. I always admired my teachers and often imagined myself being in their place. However, as I grew older, my aspirations changed. Eventually, I developed a strong desire to pursue a career in Nursing. The idea of helping people in need and caring for patients brings me comfort.
After completing my higher secondary examination in 2019, I took a major step towards my goals. I appeared for the JENPAS UG exam and also filled out the forms for ANM (Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery) and GNM (General Nursing Midwifery) courses. Unfortunately, due to my lower rank in the entrance exams, I could not secure admission. I was a little disappointed but did not lose hope. Then at the end, I decided to continue my studies and chose BSc (Hons) in Botany at Government General Degree College, Kharagpur.
Even after this, I did not lose my passion for Nursing. During my third year at the college, I once again applied for BSc Nursing along with ANM and GNM entrance exams. When the counselling results were released, to my surprise, I was selected for the GNM course at GNM Nursing Training School, Jhargram. This was my first step towards fulfilling my dreams, and I was excited to begin my journey in the Medical field.

A New Beginning
On January 3, 2022, I attended my first class at the institute. It was a day filled with emotions, excitement, and nervousness. It was also the first time I was living far away from home. Hostel life has been a unique experience; late night gossips, group discussions and food parties became a regular part of my routine.
Life at Nursing Training School was not just about the academics, it was also about experiencing different cultures. Our Institute organised different festivals and events such as Lamp lighting Ceremony, Saraswati Puja, Dol Utsav, and other engaging programs.
Facing Challenges and Learning Lessons
One of the most significant parts of training was practical experience I gained at the hospital. Going to the hospital ward and assisting the patients for the first time made me very nervous. I was afraid of making mistakes, because being a Nurse is a big deal for me. However, as time passed, I became more comfortable with my work.
Every day at the hospital was a new learning experience. I got the opportunity to interact with patients, understand their concerns, and assist doctors and senior nurses. The hospital environment taught me many things, including how to remain calm under pressure, handle emergency situations and provide emotional support to patients and their family members.
During my training period, I came across several cases, some were heartbreaking while others were inspiring.
Growth and Transformation
In my three years at the institute, I have grown tremendously, both professionally and personally. The experience and knowledge I gained during training has shaped me into a more responsible and skilled individual.
Now, as my college life comes to an end, I am preparing for the next chapter of my life. I am actively looking for job opportunities and also studying for the post basic BSc Nursing entrance examination. It is my dream to become a qualified Nurse, and I am determined to achieve it. I believe that every challenge I face and every lesson I learn during the training period will help in my future career.
Conclusion
Looking back at my journey, I feel immense gratitude for every experience, both the success and the struggle. Each setback made me stronger and more determined. I learnt that dedication along with a positive mindset can help one overcome any obstacle.
I hope that my story inspires others who may be facing similar challenges in their academics or career. No dream is too big if you are willing to work hard for it. I am excited about what the future holds for me, and I am ready to embrace the next phase of my journey with confidence and determination.
