While selecting colleges or universities for higher studies, students should opt for the ones that are ranked high as well as have the right accreditations. Rankings and accreditations are granted for a number of factors and are based on various parameters. Currently, SRM University is one of the leading institutions for Science and Technology and popular among a lot of students. It is one of the largest multidisciplinary universities in the country to be assessed by the new methods of ranking.

The rankings and accreditations of SRM University can be found here in detail. It offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and has a total of seven campuses all over India; Chennai-Ramapuram, Chennai Ramapuram Part- Vadapalani, Kattankulathur, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Sikkim, and NCR- Ghaziabad. SRM, with more than 50,000 students and over 3,200 faculty members, offers programmes in a plethora of disciplines like Medicine, Dentistry, Science, Engineering, Management, Law, Health Sciences, Hotel Management, Agricultural Sciences, Humanities, and Teacher Education.

SRM Accreditation Details

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, also known as SRM University, has been accredited with A++ (A double plus) by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The UGC (University Grants Commission under MHRD) has accorded it Category One University 12 B status. In the latest accreditation process, approximately 70 per cent weightage is given to quantitative metrics. The University is called upon to upload the evidence online, which is then verified using computer-based tools.

SRM has scored 3.55 on a 4.00 scale, which automatically makes it eligible to be accorded graded autonomy as Category I University as per the new regulation of the University Grants Commission. On getting Category One University status, SRM shall be deemed under section 12B of the UGC Act, 1956. This means that now it can start-off more campuses throughout India and increase internationalisation.

In October 2017, the UK based popular ranking agency QS (Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd.) also ranked SRM as a ‘4-star’ University with ‘5-star’ ratings in some categories concerning employability, teaching, and inclusivity. It has won seven awards in total and is a participant in the UGC’s Paramarsh scheme. It has not only received the highest grade in NAAC accreditation but also has international programme-based accreditations to add to its credits.

Four of its BTech programmes offered at the Kattankulathur campus have been accredited by UK based IET (the Institution of Engineering and Technology). The US-based ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission has accredited five of its engineering programs. Due to these international accreditations, over 1,000 students from 64 countries are currently studying at SRM.

Getting accredited by NAAC with the highest grade is not an easy feat and is a result of various innovative measures for the student’s benefit and due to highly qualified faculty members who promote an invigorating learning atmosphere. The University has adopted the IDEAL (Inter-Disciplinary Experiential Active Learning) curriculum with options to choose specialisations at the undergraduate level itself. It has implemented FIIP (Faculty Industry Immersion programme) and organises many interactive sessions for students, offering top management and performance-linked incentives for faculty members.

Besides the fact that all the professional programmes at SRM are AICTE approved, many rating agencies have highly praised the Student Abroad Programme, alumni and research representatives in the Board of Studies and Academic Council, and entrepreneurship as a project. The institution also boasts tinkering laboratories brimming with the latest equipment. It has also introduced improvised grading schemes and young alumni awards. Participation in the College Board forum and study India Initiative is specifically designed to maximise internationalisation.

SRM Rankings and Awards

SRM was awarded the National IP award in 2018 in the category of a top academic institution for patents and commercialisation by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The Times Higher Education Rankings has ranked it 1,001+ on The World Rankings 2020. Apart from this, the University was also ranked 351-350 on The Asian Rankings 2019.

According to NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) 2019 rankings, the overall ranking of SRM was 32. It has been ranked 14th in Pharmacy, 22nd in Medicine, 36th in Engineering, and 73rd in Management and has been ranked 3rd among private institutions in India by Ministry of Human resource Development ARIIA rankings. This NAAC accredited institute is regarded as the world’s 243rd most sustainable university by UI Green Metric rankings.
