Here are some positive and negative points of SRM University: 

Positive:

1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
2. You can have a lot of fun
3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
4. Canteen facilities are excellent
5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
3. The curriculum is old. 
4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology or SRM IST (formerly known as SRM University Chennai) was established in 1985 and is located in Kattankulathur, Chennai. It is considered to be a good college as it is ranked 1001-1200 by the QS World University Rankings 2025 under the 'World University' category. Further,  SRM University Chennai Rankings include 4th rank by Outlook 2023 under the Engineering category,  4th rank by Times 2023 for BBA, and 11th rank by NIRF 2024 under the Architecture category. 

The basic eligibility criteria for B.Sc. Psychology (Hons) at SRM University is that the candidate should have passed Class 12 or equivalent with English Physics Chemistry Biology / Botany & Zoology / Biotechnology Percentage and scored a minimum mentioned aggregate of marks in PCB are eligible. Candidates who studied abroad should possess equivalent qualifications as determined by the Association of Indian Universities. The other eligibility is that the candidate should have completed the age of mentioned years on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the course. The Maximum age limit for admission is mentioned years on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the course.

Candidates cannot join SRM without entrance exam. The selection for MBA course is based on CAT/MAT/CMAT/NMAT/GMAT/SAT score. Candidates who have not qualified any of the accepted entrance exam can appear for SRMJEEM.

Shortlisted aspirants need to pass PI round conducted by the university. Aspirants must meet the eligibility requirement to avoid rejection of application. Candidates must pass bachelor's degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate to apply for the MBA course. Candidates with at least two to three years of work experience get special consideration. 

SRM Institute of Science and Technology admission is entrance-based for most of the courses. The Institute accepts national-level entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT, TANCET, NATA, SRMJEEE, SRMJEEM etc. for admission to MBA, BArch, BTech, M.Tech and other courses. Offering more than 80 courses and providing an annual intake of 52 K+, SRM IST offers admission based on the counselling through SRMJEEE e-counselling. To conclude, it is not very difficult to seek admission at SRM IST.

No, SRM IST does not accept CUET score for admission to any of its UG & PG courses. The university conducts its in-house entrance exam for BTech and MTech, i.e., SRM JEE. Further, for admission to MBA course, the university accepts scores of national-level entrance exams such as GMAT, CAT, MAT, TANCE, etc. SRM University also offers direct admission to courses such as BA, MSc, etc., based on the merit of last qualifying exams of previous education.

Candidates seeking admission must have a valid NEET score to be eligible for the admissions. As per the SRM University NEET cutoff 2024, the last-round MBBS and BDS courses stood at 195886 and 338076 for admission to SRM University for the General category students in the All India quota. So, the assumed expected cutoff for the upcoming admission session 2025 can be stood between 200000 and 400000 for the General AI category candidates. Although, it is an estimated guess and the NEET cutoff is subject to many factors such as competition, difficulty level of the exam, and previous year trend.

MTech is a two-year course divided into four semesters. SRM Institute of Technology Kattankulathur offers M.Tech in full-time mode in 61 specialisations and part-time in seven specialisations. M.Tech (full-time) specialisations are Automation and Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Cloud Computing, Computer Aided Design, Construction Engineering and Management, Electronics and Control Engineering, Embedded System Technology, Environmental Engineering, etc. Candidates who have completed graduation in relevant subjects can apply for any of the M.Tech specialisations.

The deemed-to-be university accepts GATE score for M.Tech admission. However, aspirants who have not qualified GATE can also get admission to M.Tech course by qualifying SRMJEEE (PG) conducted by the university. SRM will conduct SRMJEEE in two phases. While, the Median package offered by SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur after completion of B.E. / B.Tech is INR 450,000. Basis these stats, VIT Vellore is better option compared to SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur on the Median salary parameter.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur has a superb placement landscape at its campus, with improving trends every year. Yes, candidates can get admission to BTech without JEE Main score. Admission to BTech course is only based on SRMJEEE score. Candidates are required to pass Class 12 with minimum 60% aggregate as per the minimum eligibility criteria. Further, aspirants must qualify for SRM JEE exam with a valid score. SRM University admits students based on a valid score of SRMJEE. Candidates who qualify the exam are offered seats via a university-level counselling process. There is no seat reservation policy found on SRM IST. However, other SRM University campuses might offer seat reservations for Engineering courses. SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, Haryana (SRMUH) and Galgotias University both are renowned universities for B.A. However, in terms of affordability, SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, Haryana (SRMUH) is a better option since the total tuition fee for SRM University, Delhi-NCR, Sonepat, Haryana (SRMUH) is INR 165,000 and the total tuition fee for B.A. at Galgotias University is INR 138,000 - INR 231,000. In the total fees that students generally end up paying the university or the college, various other components are also included, such as the exam fee, application fee, lab and other charges.

Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board can apply. However, the qualifying examination should have been passed with a minimum of 50% aggregate. The eligible candidates can visit the official website to apply. Aspirants must hold the pass certificate and mark sheet as well. These documents have to be submitted at the time form filling. Opening and Closing rank depends on the category and quota of candidates. For general category under All India, opening rank was 559036 and closing rank was 702719. Cut off are different when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even domicile of home state. Admission to Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam NEET. SRM Dental College (KTR) has a decent placement record for BDS. However, the placement rate over the past few years has been less than 100%.
