Students get hands-on training on how to assemble solar study lamp at SRM
College of Pharmacy, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur(SRMIST) organised a Student Solar Ambassador Workshop 2019 at its Kattankulathur campus on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, October 2. This was organised by SRMIST in association with Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) as part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
The event was aimed at educating the youth on the benefits of solar energy. The event witnessed an active participation of 1,000 students across 13 schools who were given hands-on training on how to assemble a solar study lamp. Students also took a pledge of non-violence towards environment.
The chief guest for the event was SRMIST Vice Chancellor Dr Sandeep Sancheti. Guest of honour was District Education Officer of Chengalputtu A Prabakar.
Dr Sancheti talked about the importance of having a healthy and hygienic lifestyle. Cleanliness and significance for long and sound life was the core message of this event and this year.
The event also benefitted a lot of underprivileged students, who do not even have access to electricity, by teaching them how to create solar lamps.
