In a conversation with Shiksha.com, Provost of Indrashil University Dr JS Yadav talks in detail about the University’s pedagogy to make students industry-ready. Not just the practical exposure, but they facilitate students with global exposure to be at par with global industry standards. Dr Yadav also talks about the University-s industry-embedded curriculum that prepares students to face the world challenges, shape and solves them with their freshness, ideas, acumen and zeal. Dr JS Yadav is an architect of distinction in building potential research groups with state-of-the-art facilities. Dr Yadav is known as an outstand ing Organic Chemist of India.

Q: How is the teaching methodology of your institute different from others?

A: Our classrooms are digitally equipped; theoretical component is conveyed through lectures, videos, presentations, 3-D Models and specimens. This theory part is practically tested and demonstrated in cutting edge world of the art Laboratories where students get hands-on real-life experience of the knowledge. Thereafter every module is followed by an expert lecture from the Industry along with time to time industry immersion. Lastly, students are divided into groups and work upon assigned live industry projects as we are a Pharma company-sponsored institution.

Our labs are Rand D centre working upon current industry problems and innovative breakthroughs, with facilities of equipment such as GC, FTIR, PCR, NMR, hardly to be found in any other private university in Gujarat and even in most of Government universities.

Along with it, students get benefits from our collaboration with eminent foreign universities for student exchange, International internship and faculty rope in. 

Q: How are you preparing your students as industry-ready?

A: Our institution is an initiative of Cadila Pharmaceuticals Limited set with a vision to amass and harness the energy and talent of young minds to innovation and entrepreneurship. They are equipped with skills and tools to work on the current market and industry problems. Our curriculum encompasses 40 per cent of course learning through seminars and workshops by experts from the industry, time to time industry’s visits in each semester and internship (20 per cent of the course length). Our students have interned with the best chemical and  Pharma companies and also availed the opportunity of interning and working at the best research institute of India whom we have collaboration for Joint research and internship.

Q: What quality do your students have which other college students lack?

A: Our Knowledge capsules are designed and  injected with a 360-degree outlook having all angles covered:

1. Theory
2. Practical
3. Expert seminar from Industry (to abreast the current ongoing work in that field)
4. Industry visits to watch and  analyses the applicability of acquired knowledge
5. Live project from Industry to apply and hone their skill
6. Industry and  Central research centre internship finally to do the actual company work.

So this holistic approach along with co and extra-curricular activities leads to complete personality development and confidence of our students.

Q: Do you think the curriculum of the courses taught in your institute fits in the requirement of the industry?

A: Our courses are designed by experts from academia and industry and the same is delivered through both modes of Academician and  Industry experts.

Our deliverance in terms of know-how, Skill and tools are very much lively and market-oriented with a futuristic projection. Our students are Industry ready by the completion of course, prepared to take world challenges and shape and solve them with their freshness, ideas, acumen and zeal.

Q: Is your college receptive to innovation, technology, science and entrepreneurship?

A: We are an active platform for innovation and entrepreneurship. Most of our faculties are Doctorate and Post-doctorate from the top world institutions like- MIT, Texas; A&M University, the US; Wayne State University, the US has worked in many research fields and contributing research papers, patents, etc.

These skilled faculty pools groom the students and transfer their persona with the accumulated knowledge they possess. At our campus, we also have Atal Incubation Center, a Government of India initiative for innovation and entrepreneurship. Currently, 10 students are pursuing PhD under my mentorship. So, we are moulding the minds of the nation’s future builders with the best modern facilities and resources.
