TBI (Technology Business Incubator) for Startups & Application

Over the years, Chandigarh University has introduced various startups by providing business services among its faculty, alumni and students through its in-house Technology Business Incubator (TBI). Supported By NSTEDB - National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, CU’s TBI nurtures entrepreneurship skills, and creates self-employment, product development and manufacturing in line with the social objectives of the Government of India.

Also, the TBI incorporates Seed Support Under the National Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovations (Nidhi SSS) to ensure complete assistance to budding entrepreneurs and other unique platforms that facilitate students and peers in the process of product development, business development and entrepreneurship.

Up to this point, the Technology Business Incubator at CU  has supported 120+ upcoming Startups with 22 Graduated Startups. This centre further supports entrepreneurial ventures with Seed Money worth rs 500K and 50+ Investors. Other than this, the Technology Business Incubator (TBI) and CU’s University School of Business (USB) have jointly established a Rural Entrepreneurship Development Cell (REDC) on the University campus to promote entrepreneurship among the rural sections and regions.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell

The Entrepreneurship & IPR Cell at Chandigarh University was established in 2014 and initiated patenting the ideas of the students. Following this, the University began funding student projects for prototyping, which further led to the establishment of  Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development cell (IEDC) on the CU Campus. Chandigarh University, through this development cell, facilitates students and their ideas with financial support for prototyping.

Earlier, DST allowed a maximum of 5 projects per year, however, it changed when the university management sanctioned an additional 10 Lacs per year  and increased the number of sanctioned projects to 15. In the first two years 14 prototypes were built by the students and more than 40 patents were filed. The numbers have kept increasing ever since. In the year 2016-2017 NSTEB (National Entrepreneurship Board) and DST (Department of Science & Technology) sanctioned a grant of 4.12 crore for the Technology Business Incubator at Chandigarh University.

Industry Support, Financial Support, Tech Support & More

While the dedicated entrepreneurship cells and departments facilitate in laying the foundation of a startup and then building it on, Chandigarh University has also been following various other means to promote entrepreneurship over the years. Focussing on the support from the industry, the university has consistently organized distinct entrepreneurship summits and conclaves in collaboration with top industry leaders, or government bodies to promote the exposure to aspects of entrepreneurship and lay a platform for future startups.

Other than this, the university provides 18 months incubation at its dedicated entrepreneurship cells with seed support, infrastructure support, laboratory support and more. Furthermore, there are regular investor meets to magnify the field for budding entrepreneurs who get the opportunity to raise funding for their products or attain grants.
