Firsts come first, I want to share what made my college and course a perfect combination. So, I have been into History, archaeology and social science right from my childhood days and I have decided that I need to pursue a BA (Hons) in history only which motivated me to do hard work to get admission into the University of Delhi and I got Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women which provided me the best faculty for History who helped me a lot in understanding History and who helped me in all aspects of my life. The faculty of this college is very helpful and understanding who made my journey a little easier and also taught me to survive the college life in a better way. They made the subjects easy for me. It took a lot of courage for me to choose this course as a career option. When I was in class 10th, I was not very confident about taking humanities as a subject in class 11th but I took a leap of faith and decided to go on with my interest and took humanities which includes the following subjects:
- History
- Political science
- Economics
- Geography
- English
- Physical education
The Perfect Combination: History and College Life
In class 12th I did a lot of hard work to get into the University of Delhi and I got the required percentage to get admission into the university. From the very beginning, I was very passionate about my course because I realized very soon that my only interest was in humanities in general and history in particular. History fascinates me it gives me an idea of how society, economy, culture and people were in the ancient past and how our country is shaped. I think people do much better in a subject which fascinates them so one should always choose the career which suits them. That is why I’m looking forward to pursuing an MA in history from the University of Delhi. When I got admission into the University of Delhi I was very much convinced that from now onwards I only have to study hard and do nothing except study though I never knew that the university offers a number of things to do in college.
The Value of College: Growth, Exposure, and Opportunities
College life makes you a very different person. It gives you exposure. You meet different people from different states, languages and cultures which teaches you some good qualities like patience and perseverance. College makes you competitive as well which is very much required in today’s time. It pushes your potential which helps in your overall growth. Extracurricular activities are one thing which gives a lot of exposure. For example, in our college, there were a number of societies like Sangitika for singing and there were societies for painting, dancing, drama and many more which allowed students to explore their hidden talents. College also offers NCC and NSS training which motivates students to contribute towards our nation. It boosts patriotism among students and the training makes the students physically and mentally fit for any service in future. Getting into the University of Delhi is tough and it requires academic excellence but I think it is worth it because the syllabus of the courses of the University of Delhi is very nicely designed and covers every aspect of the subject. I didn’t take any examination for admission to the University of Delhi in the year 2020. During that time the University released a merit list which was based on the class 12th board’s percentage. But now the procedure has been changed and students have to take the CUET (UG) admission test to gain admission to the University of Delhi. Concluding things, I would like to tell the students that colleges are the place where everybody gets plenty of knowledge in different fields—three years of my college life taught me so many things. I got friends from different states and different cultures which taught me patience to deal with people whose thought process is different from ours and it also improved my capacity for tolerance. It gave me thorough knowledge and understanding of History and provided me with several opportunities in the field of archaeology and History.
