Mystory@Vishrut Kathaley: How I chose my course and career path
During my early schooling years, Mathematics was my favourite subject and Science was what I always admired. By the time I reached Std 10th I had decided that I will be opting for Science stream for 12th. As time progressed, I was more and more attracted towards the working of various mechanical components. Combined with my overall interest in Science, this made me choose Mechanical Engineering as my area of specialisation.
After completing my formal graduation in Mechanical Engineering I decided to test my skills in the industry. Got a decent job in the manufacturing sector and worked for maintaining and improving the Quality Management System. I was given the designation of QA Officer.
My experience in Quality department started developing my interest in the field of Operations. This was a turning point for my further education. I was pretty decent in marketing activities as well. But my interest in quality made me take Operations as my specialization in MBA. I wanted to improve my managerial skills and hence took efforts for pursuing MBA.
How I cracked college admission
I was able to get admission in this college by cracking the MH-CET 2016. I did not appear for any other exams except this. I took systematic efforts for preparation. I specifically decided that I shall not leave my job unless I get an admission in top 5 MBA colleges available. The first step in my preparation was to join a proper coaching class.
My home town is Nashik, where I planned to join ELC Education for my preparations. Handling my work timings, I started my coaching. The amount of time I had for coaching was only morning. Hence, I took the morning batch and started the coaching. After coaching had been done, I needed some questions for practice. The coaching class uploaded the practice online tests. I solved 27 of such online tests, which proved me beneficial for preparing well and getting an admission in the college.
I secured 97.5 percentile in the exam and got admission in PUMBA. For all the students who are interested in getting admission, ELC Education is a great coaching institute. Teaching faculty is good and is result oriented.
What I gained from my college experience
This is my 3rd trimester at PUMBA, which has a trimester pattern. Hence we have exams after every 3 months. Therefore, college life is busy all round the year. Hence the amount of time for studies is pretty small and each exam has a minimum of 5 subjects, making it difficult to spare time for other activities.
In the college, I find it interesting to attend lectures of Operations and Finance. My work experience developed my interest in the field of Operations. Learning all the fine points in all the various aspects of production, quality, supply chain management is real fun and also a challenging task. Challenging because, these concepts are known when applied practically. But to identify each concept is a challenging task. Learning all the known concepts is really a nice thing to do. This makes me have a deeper insight in all the concepts. This will help me in practically applying all the concepts more effectively.
The second most interesting subject is Finance. Me being a Science student, commerce concepts were pretty unknown for me. Learning them was real fun. The applicability of those concepts was the most interesting part. Understanding how changes in one parameter caused changes in all the remaining parts and what were its implications, was really interesting. Also as Finance involved Mathematics, I was naturally attracted towards it.
In PUMBA, various student-operated cells carry out all the activities. It means that PUMBA is a student driven organisation. There are various cells like Placement Cell, ED Cell, Cultural Cell, Communication Cell etc. For the 1st 2 trimesters I was a part of Placement cell. Placement of various students was the activity carried out by the students of this cell. It’s not a compulsory activity but students can be a part of any of the cells.
I being a blog writer have written an article in Marathi for the college magazine, Nexus. This overall experience of 6 months has developed a sense of confidence in me. What I was 6 months back was different from the one I am now. Increased maturity, positivity, competitiveness has been the positive changes in me which have taken place after joining this college.
