NMAT Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
NMAT 2020 exam pattern has undergone major changes. As the NMAT Exam 2020 is approaching, candidates should be thoroughly aware of the exam pattern and the marking scheme. Read this article to have a know-how of NMAT exam pattern and marking scheme.
NMAT is one of its kind MBA entrance exam with a test window of approximately three months, allowing candidates to take the exam thrice. NMAT was conducted by NMIMS, Mumbai till 2014 and was taken over by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) from 2015 onward. The exam is a gateway to over 30 B-schools across India and some international B-schools located in Philipines, South Africa and Nigeria.
NMAT exam pattern has undergone several changes this year. The number of questions has been reduced whereas the duration is the same. Equal weightage is given to all the sections. The NMAT 2020 question paper will have three sections –Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. The exam will be conducted in computer-based mode and all the three sections are individually timed.
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the exam authorities have given candidates the liberty to choose between appearing for the exam from a designated test centre, or their home in an online remote proctored manner. NMAT Exam Pattern 2020 Highlights
The NMAT Exam has three sections having 108 questions in total. Till last year, the total number of questions was 120. Check the section-wise breakup in the table given below.

NMAT Exam Pattern 2020 Sectional Weightage
Each section of the NMAT question paper carries equal weightage. Candidates are meant to answer questions of each section within the sanctioned duration. Once test takers are done with a section, irrespective of the candidate selects to move to the next section or if time runs out, the candidate will not be able to return to that section. Once the candidate ends a particular section, all answers are considered final. The table below brings the section-wise exam structure, duration and score range.

NMAT Marking Scheme 2019
- Each objective type question of NMAT exam carries approximately 3.3 marks
- There is no negative mark in case of wrong attempts
- No marks are deducted for unattempted questions
NMAT 2020 Exam Pattern: Key Points
- Three Attempts: Candidates can appear for the test three times in an admission cycle i.e. one exam and two retakes.
- Slot Booking/Exam Scheduling: Candidates have the option to choose a date, time and location of the exam as per their comfort.
- Option Between Choosing Test Centre and Home: Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, candidates are given an option to take the test either from a designated test centre or from their homes in an online proctored mode
- Choosing the section order: Candidates can select the order of sections of the NMAT question paper during the test. For example, one can opt to attempt Quantitative Aptitude section first then Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning.
- Reviewing: Candidates have the option to review their answers at the end of each section and reattempt if there is such need.
- Scores Within 48 hours: Candidates will get the score of each attempt within 48 hours of taking the test in their dashboards
According to GMAC, the changes have been introduced the changes keeping in mind the current scenario and also to make the test more candidate-friendly.

No, JEE is not required for NMIMS Navi Mumbai admissions. The university much like other NMIMS campuses accepts NMIMS CET/ NPAT/ NLAT or SAT/ ACT for admission to its courses. For BTech and BTech + MBA admissions, NMIMS CET/ SAT/ ACT are required. JEE Main is neither accepted nor required.

No, NMIMS Mumbai BTech admission is not available in direct mode. Admissions to BTech are based on NCET scores obtained by applicants.
However, if any seats remain vacant after counselling roundshave been concluded, candidates can get direct admission through their Class 12 board exam scores.
