B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2026

Choose NIT Durgapur to experience the best campus life and packages.
Placements: 85% of the last batch was placed. A total of 187 companies visit the campus and offer 746 jobs. You need a CGPA greater than 7 to be eligible for placement, with a maximum of 30–40 LPA and minimum 5-7 LPA. But students have to work hard to get good packages. After getting your degree, just work where you placed it.
Infrastructure: Campus life is so good. All students have unity, which helps them to be united, and the clubs are active but some of the clubs are not beneficial for students. And the campus fest, tech fest and cultural fest are organized in the months of March or April. And the library is well organized and has so many books. Hostels are selected based on the batch.
Faculty: Faculty members are also experienced and have a helping nature and they are so qualified and dedicated to their jobs. There are semester-wise exams, like two semesters in a year and these have a good difficulty level but you have to learn everything that is in your class notes. For SC students, there will be a be a maximum fee of 3 lacs for four years and there are many scholarships, which you can know about by checking the official website of NIT Durgapur.
Other: We have to clear the JEE Main Exam, which is conducted by NTA, to secure the seat. After that, there is 6 rounds of JOSSA counselling where we have to fill out the college name according to our choice and then we can secure the seat. For SC students, you need a minimum 88 percentile to secure a seat in the ME department. And yes, college is good for ME students; you can enjoy the campus and academics as well, but as we all know, the ME department is a little tough so keep that in mind .

My 2-year experience at NIT Durgapur.
Placements: Around 85% of students are placed in our course. The highest package in our course was 30 LPA and the average is around 8 LPA. Companies like PwC, Bajaj Motors, Reliance, and various MNCs recruit students from our branch. Roles like Engineer Trainee, Data Analyst, and SDE are offered.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of classrooms is decent. The hostels are quite good for 1st and 2nd years, while 3rd and 4th-year students are assigned older hostels. The food in hostels is okay, predominantly North Indian, and everything includes potato, reflecting West Bengal culture.
Faculty: NIT Durgapur's curriculum combines theory with real-world applications. Professors, though traditional, are engaged in research and supportive. Exams should focus more on practical rather than theory through projects, fostering holistic development.
Other: NIT Durgapur has two fests, namely Aarohan, the annual tech fest, and Recstacy, the Annual Cultural fest, which take place in the months of March and April. There are various clubs according to our interests related to Art, Coding, and Literature where students can audition and engage in activities.

B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2025
2.8

My Experience at NIT DURGAPUR.
Placements: You can apply for full-time roles in college (on-campus) from the 7th semester because many companies start hiring from this semester. Top companies like Microsoft, JP Morgan, BNY Mellon, Wells Fargo, etc., take students mostly from the Computer Science branch.
Infrastructure: Recently, there was an inauguration of the Research Building (Utkarsh Bhawan). It will definitely create an impact on this college's reputation and ranking in a good way. Overall, the quality of mess food is average here but sometimes it is bad. There are 2 grounds in this college, Ovals and Lords.
Faculty: Some teachers are good here. Each semester you have to give 3 exams i.e., CA1 (15 marks), CA2/Mid-term (25 marks), and Endterm (60 marks). I will not say that the curriculum is worse but there should be some modification in every department's syllabus. Overall, difficulty is moderate for passing the exam.

B.Tech. in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2020
3.8
4Placements4Infrastructure3Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life4Value for Money
This college is literally Rasogulla.
Placements: As a B.Tech Civil Engineering student at NIT Durgapur, I've had first hand experienced at what makes this institution unique. NIT Durgapur boasts an impressive placements record, with an overall placements percentage consistently being above 85%. For Civil Engineering, the placements percentage hovers around 75-80%. The highest package for our batch touched INR 33 LPA, offered by some leading companies in tech and consulting sectors. However, for core civil roles, packages typically range from INR 6 to 12 LPA. The placements cell works tirelessly to bring top companies to the campus. In addition to the civil engineering firms mentioned, major recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, and TCS. The placements season is a stressful yet an exciting time, with the entire batch working together to achieve the best possible outcome.
Infrastructure: The hostel life at NIT Durgapur is a significant part of the students’ experience. The rooms are spacious and most have access to high-speed Wi-Fi. The campus also has well-maintained sports facilities, including a football ground, basketball and tennis courts, and a gymnasium. Extracurricular are vibrant with clubs for every interest from robotics to dramatics. The mess food is decent, though it can sometimes be repetitive. The canteen offers a variety of snacks and meals at reasonable prices. The gender ratio in the hostel and the canteen is approximately 3:1 (boys to girls), which is gradually improving each year.
Faculty: The faculty here is a mix of seasoned professionals and enthusiastic young professors. They have numerous research publications and several projects funded by bodies like DST and CSIR. Their guidance is invaluable, particularly for those interested in research and higher studies. The semester exams in the 1st year are easier. Subsequently, the level of difficulty increases.
Other: NIT Durgapur is known for it’s vibrant campus life. The annual tech fest, Aavishkar, and the cultural fest, Recstacy, are major highlights. These events see participation from colleges across the country and are filled with workshops, competitions, and cultural performances. Overall, life at NIT Durgapur is a blend of rigorous academics, exciting extracurricular, and a supportive community. It prepares you not just for a job, but for a well-rounded career. If you're considering joining, be ready for an enriching journey filled with challenges and growth. As a civil engineering student here, I've found the experience immensely rewarding and look forward to what the future holds.

NIT Durgapur - The name itself says a lot .
Placements: Being in the civil engineering department, you can't compare your package with those of computer science, although at the same time, being a Nitian, you can assure yourself of a job, as 80 percent of the students in our batch got placed. The highest recruiters were ZS and BPCL. Many construction companies came, like Kec, Tata Project, Tata Bluescope, Adani, and Afcons. The highest package was 18 LPA, and the lowest was 4 LPA. You can't expect on-campus internships in civil engineering. However, you will get an opportunity for internship .
Infrastructure: We go with the best infrastructure and hostel facilities, as obviously it's a government-funded institution so we got free 24-hour Wi-Fi. The food in the hostel is also okay. Again, our libraries are good with AC. Then hostel rooms, especially for girls, are too good for a hostel. Moreover, even the labs are good enough, with almost all the equipment available .
Faculty: Teachers are very educated and have immense knowledge and they are always ready to help in every possible way. Some teachers are so helpful that they even allow students to call and meet themselves personally if any help is required. When it comes to the examination, the process is quite fair, and our dean ensures that no unfair means are practiced during the examination. We have 3 examinations per semester.
Other: Being in that college, you will get a very good opportunity to involve yourself in various different extracurricular activities. You will get at least two festivals per semester and a big one.
