To join Tolani Maritime Institute, first of all, you need to maintain a minimum percentage in 12th standard i.e., 60%  in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry thereafter you need to have a good score in English i.e., a minimum 50%. For admission to a three-year BSc course in Nautical Science, candidates are required to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria in the first place. Those who attain 60% aggregate in Class 12 in the Science stream are eligible to apply for this course. Admission to this course is entrance-based. Tolani Maritime Institute conducts Tolani Maritime Institute Science Aptitude Test (TMI SAT), which is particularly conducted by the institute for admission to its BSc course. This course is offered in affiliation with IMU and after the completion of this course, students will receive a degree from IMU. The institute also accepts the  IMUCET entrance exam, which is conducted by IMU itself. Candidates have to appear and qualify for both entrance exams with a valid score.

To get admission in ETO course at TMI, candidates must pass Class 12 with minimum 60% aggregate in PCM and 50% aggregate in English as subjects. They also need to get a UG degree of 4-year degree with 60% aggregate Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. Candidates' age should not be more than 30 years on the date of commencement of training, as prescribed in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules.
