BTech Counselling to Admissions: NIT student talks about his experience

Chirag Patel, a student of Computer Science and  Engineering  shares his first hand experience of taking admission at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal. He explains all the formalities that he had to go through during the counselling process.

Yes, we already know what life at NIT Warangal actually is like. The college is known to have one of the best hostels in the country and is a good choice if one wants to pursue engineering.

We’ll also bring you more on what you can expect in your first week at a NIT but as of now, know what to expect when you attend counselling after JEE Main 2014.

Q. What was your rank? How was your counselling procedure actually like?

A.

My rank was 2,577 in AIEEE, at that time IIT JEE and AIEEE were two separate papers. This time they have combined both the papers. At that time, the counselling procedure was such that you were called as per your rank and you had to fill-in your preferences online. Then, as per this process there were seven rounds of counselling. So, after each and every round, they used to assign students some booth in a particular college based on their ranking. After three rounds of counselling, we were asked whether we were satisfied by our college and want to continue our course there or whether we want to take part in the next round of counselling.

I got Electronics and Engineering at Jaipur NIT and I decided to again go through the counselling procedure and declared that I was not satisfied with the seat. We could go and submit this declaration at any NIT. So, I went and submitted the same at Jaipur as this was my home state. Here, I was asked to show some original papers, then the authorities did some paper work and we had to pay some fee, after which I took part in the counselling again and had to re-fill my choices in a form. So, after taking part in the counselling, I secured a seat at NIT Warangal in Computer Science and Engineering.

So, I was satisfied with the stream and college and headed over to NIT Warangal. On reaching NIT Warangal, we were made to sit in an auditorium and further the admission process took place.

Q. The counselling procedure has changed this year and is now completely online. Do you have any idea about this new procedure?

A.

Like I was saying, the counselling procedure was online only. So, in the admission procedure when you are allotted a seat you have to visit that college to book your seat. There are some slight changes in the counselling procedure but I am not aware of them completely. The thing is that students are first allotted a seat and given a time frame within which they have to book a seat in the college of their choice.

Q. Are there any other formalities which students have to undergo in order to complete their admission process at NITs?

A.

After counselling we had to visit our particular college and had to go through two stages to complete the admission process. First we had to show our original documents, we were made to sit in the auditorium of our college, that is, NIT Warangal and we were asked to fill up a form wherein we had to fill in all our details. Then, the authorities cross-checked all the information as well as original papers which we submitted to them. After this, we were sent to the computer centre, where the next stage of the counselling process was due.

In the next stage we had to fill all our personal details in an online form. After this all the original documents were sealed in a plastic bag and kept at the college itself. After this, we were assigned a slip where our section, roll numbers and other details were mentioned. We were also given our ID cards that day itself. However, this step differs from college to college.

Q. What was the procedure to apply for hostels?

A.

At the time of admissions, when we paid the fee, at that time itself we were asked about our hostel preference and paid for the same there itself. We also paid the mess and tuition fee at that time only.

On the counselling day itself, when we reached the college our documents were checked, we were asked to bring a DD which was in favour of the Director of the college.

Q. So, in how many days was the admission process completed?

A.

We did not have to go again and again as all the admission formalities were completed on a single day. After the admission process was completed we were asked to go to the hostels. In the hostel, there was an office and we had to submit the hostel fee over there. After paying the fee we were assigned a room number in the hostel. So, we went and kept our luggage there.

I took part in the 7th counselling session and my session started after 2-3 days of the counselling. The academic session started with five sections. However, in our college mostly the session starts with five sections but later if more students take admission then new sections are added at our college.
