Dedication and hard work lead to success: Manish Sharma
I was a Science stream student in my XI−XII. I was really interested in Maths since my childhood and enjoyed solving Maths problems. So, I decided to go for Science rather than Commerce or Arts. Physics and Chemistry were my other main subjects.
Apart from what was taught at school, I also took tuitions for my main subjects. I decided to join engineering. But I was in a dilemma about where to pursue it from and was in a search of an engineering college that matched the standards of the present need of quality education.
I decided to pursue Computer Science and Engineering because it was my favourite subject. And seeing the present trend of the world and internet reaching every part of the world, who would not want to contribute a little to it?
Taking all things into regard, this was the best option available for me.
Taking admission in a good engineering college is not a walk in the park. You have to sacrifice many nights’ sleep and mornings’ rest just to study for the entrance examinations. You have to sometimes miss out partying with friends or going out on a long vacation just to give another test in your Maths tuition. You have to sometimes miss out on a new movie just to complete the Laws of Motion package. I did all of this.
I took tuitions in my XI-XII and also attended school without fail. It was a busy schedule from waking up in the morning and attending early morning lectures in school to coming from school and then simply running to tuitions without having a proper lunch. But returning from tuitions late night and then studying felt boring. It was all a mess.
And then came the time of examinations. First, the board examinations and then the entrances. I had filled nearly 3-4 forms for different entrance examinations and I scored well in all of them, thanks to good preparation.
But, but, but… there is competition all around here and either you need to have an eye-catching score both in boards and entrance examination to get into IITs or you need to belong to reserved categories.
Thus, lastly, I chose Heritage Institute of Technology which was the perfect institution for me based on my marks.
Finally, about my college life!
The first question is about how I spend my time in college. Well, it depends on the routine. If there is a lecture going on Algorithms, I would definitely go and attend it. But who wants to sit in a boring Philosophy class? This is where attendance comes into account. It is all a game of attendance. If I have enough attendance to give internals in a subject which is boring and of no use, then I would definitely bunk the class and go on to either play in the field or do self-study in the library.
I just don’t want to waste my time, be it in any form - whether doing nuisance in groups with friends or attending boring lectures which are of no use - neither in the future, nor in the present. Rather, I prefer to spend my time in the library.
When it comes to extra-curricular activities, I am just a sports addict. Be it cricket or football going on in the sports field, I am ready for everything. I just go there without shying, make friends and play with them. I am also a part of the National Service Scheme of HIT-K and go along with my team to various places to bring a smile on the face of kids and old people.
I really want to be a quality engineering student in the present generation of competition. So, I just want to learn new things and apply my knowledge and experience for the development of the society.
Lastly, college is an important phase in every individual’s life. We learn every important aspect of life in college. The amount of exposure we get here and the chances of meeting new people more capable than ourselves ignite us to want more and make the most of our lives.
As a person, I had many doubts and confusions earlier but coming to college has shattered my shyness into pieces, not one of which can be found out now. I am a much changed person with more confidence and more boldness than earlier. I’ve learned how to talk, how to behave, what to respond with, whom to respond and everything else in a better way since I came to the college.
Furthermore, I am just in my second year and this being a continuous learning process, there is still a lot to learn.
