Commonly asked questions
On Application Process
Q:   Which entrance exam scores does Heritage Institute of Technology accept for admission to M.Tech?
A:

Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) in Kolkata accepts scores from the following entrance exams for admission to the M.Tech. program:

  1. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering): The GATE is a common entrance exam accepted by many institutes for M.Tech admissions. A good GATE score can open doors to a wide range of M.Tech. programs and often lead to financial assistance in the form of scholarships or assistantships.
  2. PGET (Postgraduate Entrance Test): HIT also accepts PGET scores for M.Tech admissions. This is a specific entrance test conducted by the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal. HIT is an autonomous private engineering college in Kolkata that is affiliated with MAKAUT.
  3. MAKAUT PGET with GATE Score: Candidates, including those with a valid GATE score, are required to pass the MAKAUT PGET as part of the admission process. This indicates that both GATE and MAKAUT PGET scores are considered for M.Tech admissions. It is recognised by UGC, approved by AICTE, and accredited by NAAC.
  4. Written Test: All applicants, including those with a valid GATE score, must also sit for a written test. This suggests that, in addition to GATE and PGET scores, HIT may conduct its own written test as part of the overall evaluation process.

Q:   What happens if a student fails internal exams in Heritage Institute of Technology?
A:
Internal Exams are important for SGPA but they are not deciding factors for pass or fail. So, if a student fails in internals he/she can still pass the semester by scoring good in semester Exams and also submitting the assignments in time. Overall, the student has to score 40% to pass so it includes Internals + Sem Exams + Attendance + Assignments. So, if one got 5 marks in internals he/she has to score 35 more from Semesters and assignments.
AskShikshaGPT on App
Q:   What will happen if someone misses the internal exam in Heritage Institute of Technology?
A:
There is no problem if one misses the Internals only issue is that the marks of internals will not be added and the student has to solely pass from the semester Exams and also it will be difficult to score good marks in that subject. Other than that there is no issue. So, try not to miss the internals as they are the key to score good CGPA.

I think more focus on CSE.
Placements: There is less hope for core companies. Most recruiters are TCS, Accenture, etc. Median salary is 3 LPA to 5 LPA. For CSE, the highest salary package offered is 5 LPA to 7 LPA. It also offers above 12 LPA but no mass hiring. Reputation is good compared to EMI or techno hackathons that happen, and teamwork is encouraged. Internships are not that common but jobs are mostly in consultancy unless one tries own.
Infrastructure: Food is good especially dosa and noodles and price is reasonable. Physics labs are good with dedicated ones. Library is good. Classrooms are divided into groups. Lots of clubs to join both academic and non-academic. Wi-Fi speed is nice. Elevators are present. A whole building is dedicated to CSE, the central block Mech and ECE blocks are divided.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful. Seriousness gives an easy 8 pointer. We can get notes easily, and books are issued by college itself. Semester exams are moderate. Teachers are qualified. It's autonomous, so it focuses more on coding for CSE but core ones get less time for coding.
Other: Only government scholarships are present, no freshers altogether. Department wise functions are held. Seniors are friendly. There is no ragging in our college. Not too costly, I think it's good for CSE, ECE, and bio tech. Transportation is an issue, although when traveling. Traffic skills take a lot of time.

Heritage offers great placements, helpful faculty, good infrastructure, and decent campus life.
Placements: Around 85-90% of students from my batch got placed, especially in the CSE, IT, and ECE departments. The highest package offered is 40 LPA, and the lowest package is 3.5 LPA, and the average package is 6 LPA. Top recruiting companies for our course include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Accenture, IBM, and Amazon. About 70-80% of students got internships during their course, mostly in service-based companies like TCS, Capgemini, and Wipro. Common roles offered include software developer, analyst, data engineer, system associate, etc.
Infrastructure: The college provides strong infrastructure with high-speed Wi-Fi, air-conditioned libraries, well-equipped labs, modern classrooms, and dedicated project rooms. Labs are regularly maintained and include updated systems and equipment. Hostel facilities are available, especially for girls, and boys can opt for nearby PGs. The mess food is average but hygienic. There are multiple canteens on the campus. The campus is clean and green with facilities for indoor and outdoor sports, a medical room, and regular maintenance.
Faculty: Faculty members are well-qualified. Many of them are PhD holders and have years of teaching experience. They are approachable and helpful. The course curriculum is regularly updated and aligned with industry needs, especially in fields like AI, ML, and cloud computing. Semester exams are moderately difficult but manageable with regular study. The pass percentage is high for students who attend classes and study consistently.

Master of Computer Applications (MCA) - Batch of 2024

College fails in infrastructure, placements, and faculty support.
Placements: College provides limited placement opportunities for MCA students. Placement cell heavily focuses on B.Tech students while MCA students are sidelined. Very few core companies visited our campus for MCA specific roles and many of us had to find jobs on our own.
Infrastructure: College infrastructure is not up to the mark. Classrooms are not well-maintained. Basic things like clean washrooms and proper seating are missing. Canteen food is average, and hygiene is not up to the mark. For the fees we pay, the facilities are not worth anything at all.
Faculty: Faculty is unhelpful and lacks proper knowledge. Most teachers read from slides with no real explanation. They avoid doubts, don't show any interest in student growth, and don't provide any guidance and support. There is no motivation and encouragement from their side.

My college review, where I spent the most beautiful time of my life.
Placements: Around 70% of students get placed from our batch. The rest chose higher studies like M.Tech and MBA. Top recruiters include EY, Cognizant, GT, Capgemini, TCS, and many more. Moreover, a lot of edtech companies also visit. The TPO is helpful and provides whatever we need.
Infrastructure: Labs are very good. Lab assistants are very nice and help us through the course anytime. The process of doing labs is admirable. The library is extraordinary, with many books, including textbooks. We don’t have to buy books for study. The playzone area is also nice.
Faculty: Teachers are very gentle and helpful, as well as strict sometimes.
Other: I am a part of various clubs at this college, and it is the best part of college life. Being a part of those clubs, which are full of talented people, is an achievement in itself.

Realistic of Heritage Institute of Technology.
Placements: The placement is almost 85% for B.Tech CSE students who got placed, and the average package is between 4-5 LPA. The top recruiters of my college are TCS, Infosys, Teach Mahindra, Cognizant, etc. I am currently doing my B.Tech in ECE, and I think ECE students have also been placed in good companies.
Infrastructure: Heritage Institute of Technology has a good central library. It is large and air-conditioned. More than 250 students can sit at a time. There are lots of journals and magazines available. There are lots of air-conditioned labs in the college. There is only a girls' hostel in my college, and there are lots of boys' hostels outside the college. The girls' hostels are of both types, AC and non-AC. The quality of food is not bad, and hygiene is also maintained here.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful and well-qualified, with good knowledge of their respective subjects. Most of them are Ph.D. holders, and some are from NITs and Jadavpur. The semester exams are not very difficult, and if you study 20-25 days before the exam, you can score a good CGPA.
Other: I chose this college because when I took admission in 2023, the fee was only Rs. 45,000 for each semester, but now it is Rs. 70,000. So, I think the return on investment is not good, so you can go to Bangalore or Noida rather than this.

Good infrastructure, supportive faculty, and an industry-relevant curriculum.
Placements: Pursuing B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) at Heritage, Kolkata (2024–2028). Around 85–90 percent of students get placed. The highest package is 25–30 LPA, and the average is 6–8 LPA. Top recruiters include TCS, Infosys, Amazon and Google. Around 70–80 percent of students get internships. Roles include SDE, ML Engineer, Data Analyst, etc.
Infrastructure: The CSE (AI & ML) department has smart classrooms, high-speed labs with GPUs, campus Wi-Fi, and good library resources. The hostel is decent, and the mess food is average. Medical aid, canteen, and sports like football, basketball, and gym are available on campus. It is the best college for sports in Kolkata.
Faculty: Faculty in CSE (AI & ML) are helpful and qualified, with M.Tech/Ph.D. degrees. Teaching combines theory and practice. The curriculum covers AI, ML, Python, Cloud, etc. Exams are moderately tough but manageable. The pass rate is high, around 90–95 percent. Overall, this college has a decent course curriculum.
Other: I'm from the 2024–2028 B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) batch at Heritage, Kolkata. I choose this course due to my interest in AI/ML. It offers hands-on labs, project work, and exposure through fests and hackathons. Industry links and guest lectures can be improved.
