Mystory@Palak Khanna

Since childhood, I wanted to become a scientist but with time the focus shifted towards medical and I started dreaming of becoming a doctor. I was quite interested in Science from the beginning and wanted to make my career in the subject. I was good in Science and but not so good at Maths. When the time of stream selection arrived, I went with Science. I had an option of a 5th subject so I chose Psychology as I thought it will help me in my medical career.

In fact I found that subject to be so interesting that I made up my mind to opt Psychology Hons in Graduation. But with my Class 12 marks and high cut-off in Delhi University (DU) it seemed next to impossible. Then I had two options. Either prepare hard and secure admission in any medical college or do Philosophy Hons from DU, but I had no interest in the latter.

I was firm on my decision of pursuing a career in medical field even if I had to drop a year. One day, while talking to a friend I got to know about Apeejay Stya University and its BTech in Biotechnology programme. Without thinking twice, I joined the programme.

How I cracked college admission

As they say, “the show must go on”, I decided not to waste a year.

We don’t always get what we want in life. My dream of becoming a doctor was shattered as I couldn’t clear the entrance exams due to medical issues. I wasn’t able to prepare well for the exams. But as they say, “the show must go on”. I decided not to waste a year and opt for a course in which I knew I can do well. So yes, I have no regret of pursuing B.Tech in Biotechnology course. It is a practical course and helping me grow each day by teaching me new things. Also, I feel lucky that I discovered Apeejay University because B.Tech in Biotechnology is not offered by many reputed universities and colleges.

What I gained from my college experience

In college, I spend time studying and with my friends. Here, we have to choose degree course and core course. Degree course, as you all know is same in every college but core courses here are like extra-curricular activities. We have to complete 11 categories before we complete our degree. In core courses, the students get to study subjects from different fields. For example, a Bioscience student will learn what designing is. It includes photography, calligraphy, drawing graphics, sociology, know your environment, language, etc.

Here, the students can also learn various sports like basketball, volley ball, table tennis, etc.  In our college everyone is given equal opportunity so even those students who are not in the college sports teams are allowed to play.

I was an introvert during my school days. I hardly socialized with people in school or at family gatherings but being a college demands a lot of interaction with others. So, in college I have not only learnt knew things about B.Tech in Biotechnology but also new things about life and it has helped me change my personality.
