Low scores do not reflect your intelligence: Sneh Mishra
For starters, I was a mediocre student struggling to achieve good marks and excel in extracurricular activities. It was tough because I tried to follow suit, rather than making my own path. I took Science and Economics was my optional subject in the 10th grade (which was useful at some point during my further studies in engineering). Since there were no certain grades or requirements, it was easy for us to study whatever we could, rather than getting burdened with subjects which we were not interested in, and choosing them because of less aggregate. So, I got 92 in Mathematics and 86 in Science (PCB). Lots of help and questions came just from the last 10 years’ question papers, which helped me a lot. But I can’t say the same for the others since my board was CISCE.
Things I did as a part of my studies:
- Solved question papers of last 10 years.
- Followed and solved many mathematics book.
- Predicted the questions that might come. All I used to do was predict the pattern and repetition of the questions.
- Last but the most important, though tuitions help a lot, the cost is high. That’s why I came up with an online live tuition app to help everyone save their money.
Later on, I took admission in a mediocre school, after I came to realise that school rarely mattered, it was just the board that mattered (though many would love to eagerly fire back and oppose my belief). After completing the 12th grade, I got a score of 84 in PCM. The scoring part was easy by just studying the papers of the last 10 years, and again, it helped a lot here.
Anyone thinking about opting for CSE should buckle up because things go really fast and with lots of highs and lows in four years. It’s always recommended from to study and get a certificate from a good institution for college courses like-
- C++
- Java
- Web designing courses (PHP, HTML5, CSS)
- Android development
It can be anything you like to begin with, since it will help a lot in job interviews and personal interests.
I am pursuing my Computer Science and Engineering course from Narula Institute of Technology, which is a fine college if you got the marks and couldn’t give JEE exams like I did. There is a lot of scope in the CSE department which can’t be described in 500 words, but if you’re reading this, it means you already know it.
My programming knowledge has been adequate. I’m currently in the 3rd year, running a startup as the founder of a website-designing company, and trying to work on a side-idea for my app. It is neither too hard to study Science nor working on your own, as I am currently working with guys who are way better than me, but I’m the founder, because I took the initiative which others hesitated upon. So, if you listen to me, I’d say you should always take risks when you are sure of them, rather than running in circles and trying to break in. Nothing is or has been impossible; it’s just the perception that makes it look impossible. I won’t say a startup was easy for me, but all it took was a risk, months of experience, ups and downs, trustworthy allies, lots of coffee and a good team.
Never get demotivated if you score badly in your class 10th, 12th or anywhere in your life, because it’s never about your intelligence, but I won’t recommend not trying. Failure is the first step to success, and the start to a future with a random mistake. Try to work hard and smart for your dream; it will be hard but not after you learn what to avoid and how to work.
I had a really wonderful journey with cooperative teachers and college professors helping me every time I asked for it. Looking back, I really think that making a bold move always when it was needed helped me a lot to earn, have my name and most importantly, live my dream without any regrets.

You can get CSE in GFTI as per the JoSSA counselling cutoff last year. You cannot get any branch, like CSE, ECE in NIT at this rank.
