GATE 2026 Question Paper All Subjects: The exam body IIT Guwahati is conducting the GATE 2026 exam from February 7 onwards. The entrance exam will continue till Feb 15, 2026, With exams for various papers scheduled on February, 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, check here the GATE exam date branchwise. A total of 30 distinct test papers will be conducted. As per the GATE exam and shift timings, on February 7 the exam for XE, XL and IN subjects were conducted in the first shift. GATE 2026 Question Paper Overview
As the GATE exam will be held across various days, the memory-based preliminary response sheets and question papers will be available by the end of each day. The official question papers and answer keys will be made available later. While you wait for the 2026 papers, you can access memory based sample papers for Energy Science (XE-I) and other historical papers (2007–2025) here.
As per the pattern of GATE question paper, all subject papers consist of 65 questions totaling 100 marks, including a mandatory 15-mark General Aptitude section. Every GATE 2026 paper follows a standard 3-hour Computer-Based Test (CBT) format consisting of 65 questions.
- General Aptitude (GA) is a compulsory section common to all 30 papers, worth 15 marks (10 questions).
- Subject-Specific Section worth 85 marks, covers core syllabus of chosen discipline.
- For most engineering papers (e.g., ME, CE, CS, EE, EC), including Engineering Mathematics (approx. 13 marks).
- Papers like AR, CY, DA, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST, XH, and XL focus entirely on subject knowledge without a separate math section.

No, GATE questions are not exactly repeated. However, the concept, core, and question format may remain the same. Therefore, candidates must focus on concept-building and practice GATE PYQs as many times as possible. In addition, solve mock test paper to improve accuracy and time management.

Yes, GATE has negative marking for Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) only. In GATE question paper, MCQs will be of one and two marks. Hence, the marking scheme for such questions can be checked below -
- For one mark MCQ - 1/3rd mark will be deducted

The PhD admissions to the Institute Assistantship courses at IIT Guwahati require candidates to appear for the GATE or CEED.
However, PhD admissions to the other categories of PhD courses at IIT Guwahati are not decided on the basis of the aforementioned entrance exams scores.
