SRMU: Courses, Admissions, Placements & Fees

Aspiring B.Tech students recently interacted with senior officials from Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU) Lucknow. This interaction was facilitated and moderated by Shiksha. Read on to find out pertinent facts about SRMU and all that aspiring students are keen to know. SRMU top officials talk in detail about BTech programme structure, admission process, eligibility criteria and fees, placements and recruiting companies, among other things.

Q. Sir, why should one choose B.Tech From Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU), Lucknow?

A. SRMU has been awarded the Best Innovative University by ASSOCHAM. It is a 20-year old institution with a proven track record. It has also been ranked 15th in India amongst Top Private Universities. It was ranked 7th best in India in the list of Top Emerging B-Schools by a recent OMS-TIMES B-School Survey.

SRMU offers a number of value-added courses in respective branches. Students have an option of choosing from a range of specializations in different verticals. For example a CS student can choose cloud computing or artificial intelligence.

  Our focus is on hiring the best faculty from top institutions of INDIA, on creating an industry interface to have a better curriculum that is full of practical learning enriched with workshops by industry experts.  

Internship is part of the curriculum, in fact there are international study tours conducted for engineering and management students.

Q. What is the fee structure for B.Tech programmes as well as lateral entry B.Tech programmes? For civil engineering, particularly. Are there any scholarships offered by SRMU, apart from the government scholarships, that is?

A. Course fees for B.Tech programmes in Rs 1,40,000 plus Rs 5,000 caution money. The hostel charges are Rs 75,000 plus a security of Rs 5,000. For lateral entry programmes in B.Tech, the fee is Rs 1,30,000 per year plus Rs 5,000 caution money. Apart from Government scholarships, we provide good concessions to students based on the marks obtained in their 12th standard. Those who have scored above 70 per cent in their PCM in class XIIth, will be offered Rs 5,000 concession in their first year. This concession is offered on a pro rata basis the marks of the student. For example, if you have scored 84 per cent in PCM in class XIIth, you will get a concession of Rs 14,000 in the first year of study.

 

Q. Does the university have its own placement cell? Do companies visit the campus for recruitments or do the students have to come to the city for placements? Which are the companies that are regularly visiting the campus for the popular branches, say CSE?

A. SRMU has a very active placement cell and for students who have scored more than 60 per cent in their graduation, their chances of placements improve greatly. Companies visiting campus for placements for Computer Science Engineering (CSE) programme include TCS, Adobe, IBM, Infosys, Cedcoss Technologies. Out of a batch of 250 students, 120 have already been placed.

For Civil Engineering, recruiting companies include Bosch, Windmoller, Tata Steel and L&T and packages offered by them have gone upto Rs 5 lakh. For Electronics and Telecom, all major telecom giants such as Airtel and Vodafone are there for placements.  

For Electrical, we have placed 28 out of 40 students this year. Adani Power and Torrent Power are two of the biggest core companies that have come for campus placements. In fact, students of electrical have received more than one job offer on an average. Other companies that have shown interest in the graduating batch of this programme are TCS, Wipro, Capgemini, Cognizant, to name a few. The highest package offered was around Rs 5 lakh and the lowest was Rs 3.25 lakh.

Besides these, there is ByJu’s and Amazon and some IT companies as well that have visited SRMU for placements.


Q. Can I take B.Tech in CSE if I don’t have computers as a subject in class 11 and 12? Will there be any difficulty in taking up this course?

A. There is no need for having any prior knowledge of computers. All things will be covered in the B.Tech syllabus and you need not worry if you have not studied computers in the senior secondary classes.

 

Q. Which is better: SRMU or SRMCEM (Shri Ramswaroop College of Engineering and Management)?

A. SRMU is a university and therefore it works with better faculty and labs. It focusses on practical industry based curriculum. SRMU also offers B.Tech degrees with seven specialisations.

 

Q. Does the university assist students to get financial assistance from banks in order to be able to get admission?
