The journey of getting admission in a good college is never easy. Extensive research about the college and course is required before finalising. A focussed mindset is needed to achieve the goals.

It all started when I was preparing for JEE in Kota. Through one of my friends who is doing Petroleum Engineering, I got to know about UPES i.e. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies.  Though, I never heard about this branch of engineering before, so I began researching about the branch as well as the university. I  learnt that UPES has a good reputation and is well-known for its Petroleum Engineering branch. Like all other students, I did research about the packages and companies for campus placements. And no doubt, packages for Petroleum Engineering were quite impressive. Therefore, while preparing for JEE I thought of keeping a backup. Then I filled the UPES application form. I was interested in Computer Science Engineering. While filling the form I saw that there are more than 10 specializations of Computer Science Engineering, which I had never heard before. At that time there were three options to be filled so I just filled the choices randomly.

UPES exam was after JEE Main. My JEE exam did not go as I was expecting. After that I gave UPES exam in May and in June, I got my exam result. I got my counselling date for which I had to go to Delhi. Before counselling, I discussed with one of my friends who was also studying in UPES. He told me to opt for Petroleum Engineering if seats are available and keep  Computer Science Engineering with specialization in Cloud Computing as a second option. In counselling, when I got my turn all the seats of petroleum branch were already filled so I chose CSE-Cloud Computing. I got admission in this particular course. My session started in the last week of July. In the first week, there were some PEP (Personality Enhancement Program) classes and one orientation program organised by the college. Regular classes started the following week.  This was my journey to get admission in UPES.

Cover all the important topics first and after that, prepare less important topics. Do not forget to cover all the topics. After covering all the topics revise them thoroughly. Practise sample test papers, this would definitely help in scoring high in the exam.

No, JEE Main is not mandatory for UPES Dehradun BTech admission. While the university accepts the scores of the exam, it is not the only accepted exam. Students can also submit scores of UPESEAT/ SAT India/ CUET exams for BTech admission.
