I saw an internship opportunity posted by an associate of the firm and applied for it and successfully got the internship after a telephonic interview, says Nishtha.

A law course specifically requires a 4-week internship after the completion of every year. Internship helps in getting practical knowledge about things taught in college and also helps boost confidence for a future career in the field. Getting the required internship is a big task and should not be taken lightly. One should research well on the options available on Linkedin, Indeed, Internshala and various other platforms. The internship should be best suited to your interests otherwise you won’t enjoy while working.

My first internship was in Legalics Law firm. I made a LinkedIn profile and kept it pretty updated as to my recent achievements. I saw an internship opportunity posted by an associate of the firm and applied for it and successfully got the internship after a telephonic interview. The internship was of 4 weeks, at that time the courts were having their summer week thus my internship was spent in the firm’s office at Jangpura. The office was a comfortable one with a separate cabin area for the interns to work. The timings were from 10 am to 6 pm and it used to be a 6-day week. I was usually assigned research work on various legal topics that helped with the firm’s cases. After completing the research work I had to send a well-presented note on the topic to Sir who would ask about the topic and also help in clearing any doubts or give more information about the topic. I was also given a few case files to read and to get knowledge about how cases work in the courts and also to help frame plaint or written statement in the cases. The firm dealt mainly with property cases, matrimonial cases and other civil matters and these cases are of my interest so I loved working there. The associates were also very helpful at every point. At the end of the internship, I was given a certificate of successful internship and a stipend of Rs.1500 along with best wishes for future endeavors.

There are many things that I learned from getting this internship and the work I did there and I would like to share a few here-

  • Always make a LinkedIn profile with your updated credentials. You can contact for any internship opportunities there or you could simply ask anyone if they are willing to take interns. Please do make a formal approach while talking for such things as casual messages don’t leave a good impression.
  • Keep looking for internship opportunities on various platforms and when asked send an updated CV and a well-drafted cover letter. Don’t send your CV and cover letter in bulk, select a few options of your interest and then send.
  • Nowadays telephonic interviews are more prevalent while giving one make sure you sound confident and carefully answer the questions asked.
  • During the internship always maintain a cordial behaviour, never say no to the work assigned (obviously without overburdening yourself).
  • Develop your skills during the internship, try to learn and observe from the surroundings.
