Mystory@Karuna Kumar: How I chose my course and college

Mystory@Karuna Kumar

It was a feeling of utter confusion, having to choose my stream after Class 10th, because that was the decision on which my whole life and career would depend upon. But thankfully, I had made up my mind to go for teaching as my profession, which made the decision much easier. Also, to be very honest, I have zero interest in Mathematics so I chose to keep out of difficult streams (Commerce and Science) and opted for Humanities after Class X.

How I cracked college admission

After Class XII board exams I took coaching for B.El.Ed entrance exam as I wanted to make my career in teaching but I was not able to crack the exam.

I heard it from many people that we should keep multiple options open for admissions as there is a lot of competition in every stream and back up option is always needed. I also

I was pretty sure that I would get admission in Delhi University in the subject of my choice without giving any entrance exam.

took an attempt at Mass Communication entrance test but did not score a good rank in that exam. So after my 12th class result I was pretty sure that I would get admission in Delhi University that too in the subject of my choice without giving any entrance exam.

No option would have been better than going for BA in Political Science (Hons). My score in the subject in XII board exam was higher than my expectations so I thought I should pursue further studies in this subject. Not only this, I also had an inclination towards the subject and wanted to pursue it.

So I chose to get admission in DU looking at how much the University’s degree is valuable and how prestigious is its courses. Not to forget, I had people telling me about how DU actually helps in living the college life in its true sense.

My college experience

Reaching college at 8am daily is such a difficult task. In college, I passed my time sitting under red umbrellas having coffee with lots of chit chat with my friends and discussing about upcoming presentations, projects, assignments and most importantly our future plans.

I have attended almost all the classes excluding the ones which were too late in the evening around 3-4pm or 4-5pm because it gets very tiring to sit from 8 in the morning to late afternoon. I am part of NSS in my college under which we do so many social service activities like tree plantation, attending road safety campaigns etc. If given a chance, I would like to be an anchor in my college fest.

So being in college is both fun and boring. Overall yes, I would say that the course I am in and the reputed university I belong to have really helped me enhance my personality as a student and a person.
