Group Discussion (GD) Topics & PI Experience by Ritika Bhatia, IILM University
In a recent conversation with Shiksha, Ritika Bhatia talks about her experience of GD & PI process for admission at IILM University, Gurgaon. She has talked about the questions asked by the panelists and also has a few tips for aspiring students.
Q. What were the GD topics at the time of your admission?
The topic given to us was “How is social network impacting us?” and it was a 10 minutes discussion. Although the topic was very easy, the panel was looking for correct fact and figures, which in my case was missing.
Q. What were the focus areas during your GD preparation?
My focus areas were good communication, content, to be positive, etc. A candidate should not become aggressive while talking in a group. Your positive vibes should also reflect in your content and the way you’re presenting it.
Q. What methods did you use to prepare for your GD?
To prepare for my GD, I read the newspaper to keep myself updated with the current news. Apart from this, I also went through a few business magazines like “People Matter” which kept me updated about the latest industry knowledge and business trends.
Q. Did you take any help (coaching centers/materials) to prepare for your GD? If yes, please share the details.
I joined Times Institute to prepare myself for the GD. We used to practice using different topics in a group and that helped me a lot during the time of my GD & PI. I am very much satisfied with the institute and would love to refer Times to my friends and the people who will be attempting GD & PI.
Q. How many panelists were there?
There were two panelists during my GD. One of them was observing us on the basis of our gestures and the other was judging us on the basis of content. At the end of the GD, they also appreciated the one who came up with better content and shared some tips. They suggested us to read the newspaper on a regular basis in order to have a hold on vocabulary.
Q. What were the questions asked in your PI?
They asked me about the current HRD minister and the latest projects that were undertaken by the Modi government. I was also asked about the schemes or projects that the government is coming up with in order to encourage Make In India concept and to ensure its success.
Few other questions were-
a. Current relevance of e-Business
b. My preferred MBA specialization and why did I choose it?
Q. How did you prepare for your PI?
I didn't prepare a lot for my PI. I used to read newspaper and business magazines to stay updated with current business trends.
You should always know your strengths and weakness and should consistently challenge yourself to overcome hardships.
Q. What strategies (books/reference materials/coaching) did you apply for preparation of PI?
