How To Prepare Using JEE Mains Previous Year Questions Chapter-wise PDF download?
Students must practice the JEE Main PYQs in a systematic order. Merely solving the questions at your own pace or reading through the JEE Main previous year question paper with solutions will not benefit candidates. Based on subject experts and previous year JEE Main toppers' strategy, students should practice the last 5 years JEE Main question papers as per the following method.
- Download the official JEE Main past 5 year papers from the table above for each session.
- Sit in a quiet room and set your timer for 3 hours.
- Solve the questions within this time duration.
- Match the answers and your responses to see which questions you have attempted correctly and incorrectly.
- Note down the questions where your responses were incorrect.
- Identify the topic the questions are framed.
- Study that particular topic again using NCERTs, reference books and watching video lectures.
- Take sectional mocks if required and reattempt another past year JEE Main question paper to test your knowledge.
Chapterwise weightage of class 11 and 12 topics in JEE Main are mentioned below:
- Physics: Current Electricity Waves AC, Magnetism, Laws of Motion Work, Power and Energy.
- Chemistry the high weightage topics are s and p block elements, Coordination compounds, Thermodynamics Gaseous state, Chemical bonding, Atomic structure, Polymers, Environmental Chemistry Organic Chemistry.
- Mathematics, the high weightage topics are Sequence and Series Vectors and 3D, Integral and Differential Calculus, Definite and Indefinite Integral.
Questions in the JEE Main exam are of two types
Multiple choice questions - Each question will have 4 options with only 1 correct answer. Candidates have to select the correct answer out of the 4 available options.
Numerical Ability Question - In these type of questions, no options are provided. Candidates have to solve the question and write its answer using keyword and mouse. Answer to these questions will be a numerical value.

As per the current JEE Main pattern, the Paper 1 exam have a total of 75 questions, 25 each from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of 25 questions, 20 are multiple choice questions and 5 are questions with numerical value answers. Students need to answer all 5 numerical value type questions. Also, all 20 multiple-choice questions are compulsory and no choice is provided in them. Students need to complete all the 75 questions in 3 hours. The total marks of JEE Main exam is 300.
NO, it is compulsory to attempt all questions in the JEE Main exam. The JEE Main exam has negative marking and candidates must answer only those questions for which they know the correct answer. Students must note that there are no minimum marks in JEE Main that students need to score. Students gets All India Rank based on the marks they secure in exam and gets admission based on that rank.
Question paper during the exam will be visible in English, Hindi and the language selected by the candidate while filling the JEE Main application form. Candidates can switch the language of question paper between the default languages which is English Hindi and selected language in the application. In total, JEE Main is conducted in 13 languages and candidates have the option to select any language out of the available options. Candidates cannot switch the language of question paper between all 13 languages during the exam.
