MBA makes one a complete person: Subhrajyoti Saha
Mathematics has always been my favorite subject. Also, I found Science more attractive than History or Geography. So, after Class 10 board exams were over choosing the stream of higher education was an easy decision for me. I followed my passion because that’s what matters when you are going for higher studies. Also, in Science stream there are more opportunities for higher studies and you can choose the right path according to your wish.
After completing my Engineering degree, I felt that I need to learn more about the business aspect of the industry. Having done Engineering in Electronics and Communication I already had the technical knowledge. To do well in the corporate world one needs to have bird’s eye view of the industry and knowledge about the various domains. Also, I love brands and analyzing their advertisements to understand their communication is one of my hobbies. This urged me to pursue MBA in Marketing so that I can learn more about this industry. I think, no other B-school is better than the IIMs for MBA in India. So, when I got shortlisted by IIM Shillong, I did not think twice about it and enrolled myself. It was the right decision for me as I am loving the course and the knowledge I am gaining here. I feel that having business overview along with the technical knowledge will make me industry ready and will help me perform well in the corporate world.
How you cracked admission in college
For getting into IIM Shillong, one needs to crack CAT and then clear the GD-PI process. Along with CAT, I gave various MBA entrance test like NMAT by GMAC, XAT, SNAP, MICAT. I took coaching classes for my preparation as it helped me in systematic preparation. I also enrolled for mock tests to make my preparation sharp and make myself exam ready. Mock tests help one to rectify mistakes and sharpen their strategy because in MBA exams having the right strategy is crucial. I was mainly looking for the top 40-50 B-schools in India because these colleges provide good education by making the base strong and make students industry-ready.
The main thing that is needed for cracking MBA exams is hard work and perseverance. Along with this studying with a proper plan is very important because before the exam proper revision is a must which will not be possible if the syllabus is not finished well in advance. Along with this giving regular mock tests and analyzing them is also very important.
My college experience
My time in college is mainly taken up by classes, assignments, projects and my hobbies. I always love to keep myself busy and there are a few things which always keeps me busy. Although, I am interested in marketing but I like to attend all the classes because the professors are excellent and the classes are exciting. There are always new learnings in every session. MBA course and college really makes one a complete person as one gets the chance to solve various real-life problems. The course is also very dynamic and exciting. There are always new tasks and challenges which adds to it.
I also like organize different events and to take part in various competitions. I like taking part in various online and offline competitions as well, and have won some of them too. Case-studies in the competitions are always interesting and solving them enriches my knowledge too. I am also currently doing some certifications to enhance my knowledge.
My college experience has made me more mature. In college, I have come across people of different personalities and from different cultures and interacting with them has been a good experience. This college has also given me good friends. It is indeed an exciting journey of my life.
