The selection of candidates for the MDes programme offered at IIT Guwahati is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted as a part of the central admission procedure. In addition to this, MDes aspirants need to clear the Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, ITG for shortlisted candidates based on CEED) followed by a personal interview and portfolio evaluation. Candidates who have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects is the basic eligibility for BDes offered at IIT Guwahati. Yes, candidates can withdraw their admission in MBA from IIT Guwahati. If candidates withdraw admission by 20 July 2026, a sum of INR 1,000 shall be deducted from the fee deposited. 

In case of other late requests, only the refundable portion of the fee deposited shall be returned. The applicable refund amount shall be processed from IIT Guwahati in October 2026

Computer Systems:

Qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026, also called qualifying percentile for JEE Mains will be announced by the NTA along with the JEE Main 2026 session 2 result. Candidates must note that qualifying percentile for JEE Mains 2026 is the minimum percentile required to appear in JEE Advanced 2026. JEE Advanced exam conducted by IIT Madras. Candidates can appear in JEE Advanced two consecutive times. JEE Advanced is held in CBT mode and there are 2 papers in all. Each paper has 3 sections: Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Candidates have to attempt both papers 1 and 2 to be eligible for admission to the IITs. The marking scheme and the distribution of the questions in the exam change every year.

IIT Guwahati has a seat intake of 33 for a full-time Master of Design (MDes) programme of two-year duration. The institute offers 13 seats for the General category. Apart from this, IIT Guwahati has 3 seats for the EWS General category, 9 seats for OBC-NCL, 5 seats for SC, and 3 seats for ST. Additionally, there are 30 seats in MDes Electronic Product Design.

To be considered for admission to UCEED 2025 participating institutes, the candidates need to meet the following conditions simultaneously: 

1. Age limit - The candidate needs to be born on or after October 1, 1999. For candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, there is a relaxation of five years. 
2. UCEED 2025 qualification - The candidate must have qualified in the UCEED 2025 entrance exam and must have been allocated a merit rank.
3. Qualifying examination - The candidate must have passed all the subjects in the qualifying exam (10+2 or equivalent) in 2023 or should be appearing in the qualifying exam for the first time in 2025.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati B.Des admission is based on candidates' performance in the UCEED exam, followed by a councelling process. IIT Guwahati B.Des cutoff 2023 was concluded after Round 3 Seat Allotment Result. As per the IIT Guwahati cutoff 2023, the Round 1 and the Last Round closing ranks were 11 and 14, respectively for the ST category students. Candidates under M.Tech Students (Studentship) category must have valid GATE score in admissible examination paper. They are entitled to receive Financial Assistantship/ Scholarship from IIT Guwahati at the rate of INR 12,400 per month (tenable for a maximum period of 24 months) as per the governing rules subject to satisfactory academic progress and satisfactory performance in assigned teaching assistant duty.

Opening and closing ranks for the IIT Guwahati cutoff depend on the category and quota of candidates. For the general category under All India, the opening and closing ranks for the CSE first-round admission 2026 were 277 and 582, respectively. For female-only (including Supernumerary) candidates, the first round opening and closing ranks were 1284 and 1962, respectively. 

IIT Guwahati has a seat intake of 33 for MDes, including 13 seats for the General category. The institute reserves 3 seats for the EWS General category and 9 seats for OBC-NCL. IIT Guwahati offers three specialisations under the two-year MSc programme with a seat intake of 180. The institute offers the MSc programme in Chemistry, Mathematics & Computing, and Physics with a seat intake of 60 per specialisation. Admission to all these courses is done through a common process. Candidates are selected based on scores of IIT JAM entrance exam, followed by a round of counselling.
