IIT Guwahati MDes Eligibility & Highlight 2025
IIT Guwahati MDes is a regular programme at the Department of Design(DoD). Along with the MDes regular course, it is also offered in Electronic Product Design specialisation. The focus of the programme is on the study, invention, and creative use of technologies to create effective, usable, and enjoyable experiences in the field of Design. The duration of the programme is two years, and the mode of education is full-time.
Admission to MDes is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted by IITs as a part of their central admission procedure. IIT Guwahati shortlists students based on CEED score and invites them for the Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, IITG) followed by an interview and portfolio round.
IIT Guwahati MDes Admission 2025: Fee, Seats, Eligibility & Selection
Admission to the Master of Design (MDes) programme at IIT Guwahati is entrance exam-based. The institute follows a three-tier selection process for MDes. Shortlisted candidates are required to appear for an Online Design Exercise and Portfolio Evaluation. IIT Guwahati has a seat intake of 33 for a full-time Master of Design (MDes) programme of two-year duration. The institute offers 13 seats for the General category. Apart from this, IIT Guwahati has 3 seats for the EWS General category, 9 seats for OBC-NCL, 5 seats for SC, and 3 seats for ST. Additionally, there are 30 seats in MDes Electronic Product Design.

To be considered for admission to UCEED 2025 participating institutes, the candidates need to meet the following conditions simultaneously:
- Age limit - The candidate needs to be born on or after October 1, 1999. For candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, there is a relaxation of five years.
- UCEED 2025 qualification - The candidate must have qualified in the UCEED 2025 entrance exam and must have been allocated a merit rank.
- Qualifying examination - The candidate must have passed all the subjects in the qualifying exam (10+2 or equivalent) in 2023 or should be appearing in the qualifying exam for the first time in 2025.
IIT Guwahati conducts the application process in online mode. The step-wise process is provided below:
- Open the official website and register.
- Fill in the required details and complete the registration.
- Fill the detailed application form. In this step, candidates have to provide details of educational qualifications, parents' details, address of communication and permanent address, and exam center preference.
- Upload scanned images of passport-size photographs and signature.
