
This year’s convocation was particularly special as it marked the first time IIM Sambalpur witnessed students from five different programs graduating, including the 9th batch of MBA, Executive MBA, MBA for Working Professionals, and PhD scholars.
IIM Sambalpur recently celebrated its 9th convocation ceremony. The event, held to honor the graduating students, saw 370 students culminate their academic journey across five different programs. This year’s convocation was particularly special as it marked the first time IIM Sambalpur witnessed students from five different programs graduating, including the 9th batch of MBA, Executive MBA, MBA for Working Professionals, and PhD scholars.
IIM Sambalpur Graduation Across Five Programs
This year’s convocation ceremony was historic as it included students from diverse educational backgrounds. The graduating cohort consisted of:
- 316 students from the MBA 2023-25 batch
- 38 students from the Executive MBA 2022-24 batch
- 10 students from the MBA for Working Professionals 2023-25
- 6 PhD scholars
- 2 PhD scholars in the PhD for Working Professionals program
For the first time, the graduation ceremony also included a 80-year-old entrepreneur, GM Gupta, who earned his degree in the MBA for Working Professionals Program, showcasing the program’s inclusivity of non-traditional students.
Recognition of Academic Excellence
The ceremony highlighted the extraordinary achievements of the graduates, with many students receiving accolades for their academic and extracurricular performance. The prestigious Chairman’s Gold Medals were awarded to students excelling in various categories across the MBA, Executive MBA, and MBA for Working Professionals programs. This ceremony not only celebrated academic excellence but also the holistic development of the students.
Professor Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, along with deans, faculty members, students, and their families, were also present at the ceremony.
In his welcome address, Professor Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, highlighted the institution’s remarkable achievements over the past decade. He shared that IIM Sambalpur is now one decade old, marking this as a major milestone. This year’s convocation was particularly historic because it was the first time that female students outnumbered male students in the graduating cohort, with 60% females and 40% males.
Professor Jaiswal also announced that the institute is on the verge of receiving triple crown accreditation (AACSB, EFMD, and BGA) and is hoping to achieve this within the next two years. Despite global economic challenges, he shared the remarkable success of the 2023-25 MBA cohort, which saw over 250 companies participate in the placement process, with top salaries reaching ₹31.12 LPA domestically and ₹35 LPA internationally.
Medalists and Academic Excellence
The convocation ceremony recognized the outstanding academic performance of students with the presentation of seven medals in total. Notable awardees included:
- Vipul Sharma (Chairman’s Gold Medal for Academic Excellence in MBA)
- Nilaksh Dixit (Director’s Gold Medal for Academic Excellence in MBA)
- Raghvendra Patel (IIM Sambalpur Gold Medal for Best All-Rounder in MBA)
- Rajesh Kumar Sahu (Chairman’s Gold Medal for Executive MBA)
- Sameer Babulal Meher (Director’s Gold Medal for Executive MBA)
- Shivani Nagpal (Chairman’s Gold Medal for MBA for Working Professionals)
- Abhishek Kumar Singh (Director’s Gold Medal for MBA for Working Professionals)
