Origins of BEd Entrance Exams

Earlier, the examination into BEd courses was done either directly or based on merit, however with time the concept of BEd entrance exams evolved as a means to ensure the quality of teacher education and to select candidates with the necessary skills and aptitude for teaching. Over the years, these entrance exams became instrumental in standardizing the admission process and maintaining the integrity of teacher training programs. 

Today, BEd entrance exams are conducted at both state and national levels. Each of these exams has its own unique eligibility criteria, exam pattern, and syllabus with just slight changes. The purpose of these entrance exams is to evaluate competency in GK, Teaching Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, and Subject-specific knowledge.

The State CET Cell releases the exam pattern and syllabus in the official notification. For the 2026 session, it hasn't been released yet. The expected format for BEd exam in Maharashtra is

  • Time: 90 minutes
  • Mental Ability: 40 Questions.
  • General Knowledge: 30 Questions.
