SRM Institute of Science and Technology and South Korea’s Jeonbuk National University Seal Academic Partnership

Two research-led universities join hands to expand academic exchange and research opportunities

Kattankulathur: SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), one of South Korea’s ten flagship national universities. The agreement opens a new channel for students, faculty and researchers to learn and work across borders.

JBNU has been shaping higher education in South Korea since 1947 and is the oldest and largest national university in the Honam region. More than 30,000 students study across its 16-plus undergraduate colleges and 14 graduate schools, with campuses in Jeonju, Iksan, Gochang and Saemangeum/Gunsan. Its research strengths span materials science, bio-convergence, agricultural science, veterinary medicine and semiconductor technologies.

Under the agreement, the two universities will facilitate the exchange of students, faculty and staff, pursue joint research and publications, participate in seminars and academic meetings, share academic materials, and offer short-term academic programmes. Any programme offered by either institution may also be brought under the agreement, subject to mutual consent.

The agreement was signed by Prof. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRMIST, and Dr Oh Byung-Taek, Dean, College of Environmental and Bioresource Sciences, JBNU. Prof. Jum Suk Jang, Dean, Environmental Biotechnology, and Prof. Kamalakannan Seralathan, Faculty of Environmental and Bioresource Sciences, JBNU, were present at the ceremony, along with Dr R. C. Satish Kumar, Professor, IIISM, SRMIST.

Bringing together SRMIST’s international academic network and JBNU’s strengths in life sciences, environmental research and advanced materials, the partnership creates avenues for students and faculty to engage with research environments in India and South Korea. It also opens possibilities for new projects, publications and short-term academic programmes.

Prof. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRMIST, said, “This partnership with Jeonbuk National University strengthens SRMIST’s international academic network while creating meaningful opportunities for our students and faculty to learn, collaborate and undertake research across disciplines and borders.”

The partnership adds to SRMIST’s growing international engagement and its efforts to give students and researchers greater exposure to global academic and research ecosystems.
