B.A. LL.B. - Batch of 2023
Offered by Faculty of Law, University of Calcutta

Cost-effective Law College.
Placements: There was no placement cell (at least for Calcutta University Department of Law). There was a common placement cell by the University, but it was not that useful when it came to specific legal placements. We students tried to create a placement committee, perhaps it was still active, but it was only student-run. For internships, students had to fend for themselves. Again, there was no support from the college. If there was any requirement from the organizations providing internship to a student of the college, such requirements were not fulfilled by the college.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities were available for students coming from a good enough distance. An application had to be made for availing such facilities. Hostels were cost-effective. As to the infrastructure, the highlight was the library, one of the best law libraries in Kolkata. Classrooms were moderate for a government university.
Faculty: Teachers were helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Good teachers, not exceptional, but good. The course curriculum was somewhat relevant. It needed a lot to catch up and only theoretically prepared students. Semester exams were not too difficult and the pass percentage was good.
Other: There were no fests or social activities other than student-organized committees, events, and competitions. There was an entrance test to get in, so the student pool was good. Attendance was strict, but people could go around it if they were smart enough. Government scholarships were available. The best thing about the college was that you got an amazing alumni pool for litigation if you could network well.

Great college ambience, solid faculty, the worst part is getting placements here.
Placements: Students are barely placed from this college. We might get internship certificates and results, but placements are hard to get. Packages, if somehow mentioned, are around 3–3.5 lakhs per annum. Kotak, Bajaj, etc., are recruiters. The placement percentage is around 7–8 percent or less. The course is the best thing to choose. Currently pursuing this course in this college can help you go through with better reputation and skills.
Infrastructure: Facilities are basic but helpful for students. It provides a computer lab, Wi-Fi features, a canteen with good food, a college library, and a ground to play. Our college may have medical facilities, but I haven’t seen any emergencies yet, so I’d rather not believe whether this facility is there or not. Sports and games get more attention, and that’s right. It has annual sports with a wide variety, and day-to-day sports can also be played on the ground.
Faculty: Faculty is the top one thing to consider in this college. You’ll get superb, excellent teachers and staff. The teachers are very friendly and help you clear every single doubt. This course is important as it makes you efficient in the accounts field, and companies feel the need for these skills. Semesters are easy until CU changes the exam dates earlier. Passing marks are about 25 percent.
Other: This course is helpful for an accounts and finance career, as I have interest in this field, so I chose it and it also has better future opportunities. Improvement is needed in the support system of the staff towards students, as you may face some problems in getting enough help. There are many events and a fest known as Hemflunce, where the crowd makes the day more encouraging and interesting. The surroundings are polite and feel like studying in a cool environment. Scholarships are available to students with marks above 60 percent in semesters. Extra-curricular activities are also available.

B.Com. in Accounting and Finance - Batch of 2029
Offered by Sir Gurudas Mahavidyalaya
1.2

If you are from Bengal medium, then you can take this course. Otherwise, skip this college.
Placements: At Sir Gurudas Mahavidyalaya, B.Com (Hons) placements are modest. About 25% of students got placed directly. The average package is around 2.5 LPA, with local firms being the top recruiters. Most students focus on professional courses like CA, CMA, or CS. Internships are mostly self-sourced in local accounting firms.
Infrastructure: The college has no campus or hostel. The library mostly has account books. Other commerce subjects are missing. Wi-Fi is available, but doesn't work as it's BSNL. No one stays in PGs; it's mostly for locals. The canteen is basic with limited food. Food is not tasty.
Faculty: Teachers are mostly Bengali and explain everything in Bengali. Their English accent is very difficult to understand. Some students are from Bengal and even write their exams in Bengal. The curriculum is relevant under CU, but it doesn't make you industry-ready. Exams are moderate with 70% pass rate.
Other: I chose this course only to get time for my CMA studies. The best thing is the low fee, but the language barrier and lack of English-medium teaching are major drawbacks. There is no campus life.

Feels budget friendly, well-reputed, campus and crowd are quite good.
Placements: The number of students recruited every year varies and is significantly on the lower side. There is no scope for campus placements, as the university and college do not commence them. Students mainly make connections by joining multiple internships or through second (or more) generation lawyer friends by contacting their relatives.
Infrastructure: Our college does not have a hostel or canteen. The classrooms and library are clean and well maintained. The condition of the washrooms is quite bad and unhygienic. The college is a 6-storey building, and it has a well-functioning lift with a capacity of about 400 kgs. There is no scope for games, no playgrounds and no dedicated indoor gaming rooms. There is a gym, but it is as good as useless.
Faculty: The teachers are biased and partial. Almost every teacher performs favouritism in the college. Classes are not conducted or organized professionally or efficiently. The curriculum is not relevant, however, a new syllabus which is somewhat modern and relevant is being introduced and will be adapted in 2026. Until now, students are not made industry-ready by the college itself. Semester exams are ridiculously scheduled. Some exams are taken 10 months later, and the subsequent ones are conducted within just 2–3 months. The pass percentage is quite good, about 80 percent, and the exams follow a common pattern based on PYQs.
Other: My father is an advocate of the Calcutta High Court. I have always liked this profession. The course allows one to help the justice system, which is very necessary in our country. Official events are conducted regularly, and the crowd is somewhat good.

Great value for money, very safe for women. Infrastructure is also great.
Placements: Various companies send their HR or people from their company to our college for placements and recruitment. They give a training session where if students attend at least 75 to 80 percent of the training sessions, it is easier for them to get internships in these companies, and if they do well, they even get a letter of recommendation and get placed for a job in these companies.
Infrastructure: All of the classrooms are smart with smart boards, mic, and other facilities. It is also air-conditioned, although there is only one building, yet all the rooms are well-equipped. There is a library, a physical one, and also an e-library, and there are more than 3-4 labs that have Mac computers and other facilities.
Faculty: All the teachers are well qualified, not only that, but also they teach their subject extremely well, and they are very approachable when you come up to them with any kind of trouble, they help you out. The course curriculum focuses on the basics.
Other: There are various clubs in societies in the college, like a debate club, a dancing club, a sports club, a singing club, etc. The campus isn't very big and is only open after 3:00 PM and on Saturday. The college also has fests. These clubs and societies help you brush up on your skills.

College is good, but this college is regular and they don't give study leave for CA and CS exam.
Placements: This is a government college, so placement is very low. There are no high chances of not providing placement. Accounting management under CA and banking employees are roles offered. An internship is not given, some teachers come to college for an internship. In the internship, we were paid about Rs. 2000.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is good. Facilities are available, and they teach us nicely and provide some knowledge. The college canteen is good and cheap in price, but hygiene is not maintained. We have a big college ground. Indoor games are not provided for normal students.
Faculty: Teacher quality is good, and they teach us as well as possible. I don't know if the curriculum is relevant for industry. Exams are slightly difficult because the honors paper is so difficult, and the passing percentage is about 10 percent. If you don't study, you will fails in exam.
Other: I chose this course because I don't have choice, it will be achieved easily, so I request to give us the opportunity as freshers.
